Happy birthday and happy anniversary to all our members celebrating their special day in January. Thank you to our members for braving the snow and bad weather to attend our branch's annual Christmas party for juvenile members. Even in the happiness of the new year, please remember those who have lost a loved one during the holidays. Keep them in your thoughts as they go through a difficult time. Robin Roberts, an anchor on ABC's Good Morning America, said: "Life provides losses and heartbreak for all of us, but the greatest tragedy is to have the experience and miss the meaning." Cheers to a new year of moving forward and remembering the important things in life! Branch 249 Dayton, OH by Mark Schmidt Christmas and New Years are over, the college bowl games are being played and we are knee deep in winter...literally. I've seen way too much snow already. But, I have new sweaters and family memories to keep me warm. I hope you enjoyed the holidays as much as I did. We truly have many blessings to be thankful for as we start 2014. The Branch 249 Christmas party was a success. St. Nicholas visited and gave all the kids gifts along with the goody bag provided by WPA. These were a hit, as always. The food was good, the kids sang carols and Hungarian fraternalism made everyone merry. We will have more on the party next month. Your Branch 249 officers want to thank you for all your ideas for activities this year. We will be holding meetings on how to incorporate these ideas into our local branch. A new schedule of branch meetings will be published soon. We hope to see many friends at the annual White Rose Ball in Dearborn, Mich., on Feb. 1. It is always fun to see the latest group of Hungarian debutantes and their escorts. Also, it is not too early to mark your calendars for the many upcoming WPA events. You can find a schedule of WPA fraternal events for 2014, as well as some other Hungarian events, on page 5 of this issue. You can also find information about this year's bowling tournament on page 12, the Hungarian Heritage Experience on page 17 and the WPFA Scholarship Foundation grants for the school year 2014-2015 on page 14. We congratulate those celebrating birthdays and anniversaries this month. We hope you have many more. We extend get well wishes to those who have been sick or hospitalized. May you enjoy good health soon. We extend our condolences to those who have recently lost a loved one, especially the family of Esther Sopronyi. She was a dedicated supporter of William Penn Association and truly lived her Hungarian heritage. Please call Mark or Anne Marie Schmidt at 937-667-1211 or Michele Daley-LaFlame at 937-278-5970 for your annuity, life insurance and IRA questions or needs. This is your Association. With the dreaded tax season here, why not ease those tax bills with a contribution to a WPA IRA? See you next month. Don't forget, Valentine's Day is coming! William Penn Life 0 January 2014 0 25
