For assistance with annuities, contact Anne Marie Schmidt. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Mary A. Kelly-Lovasz We had another fun and productive branch meeting, and we're putting out the welcome mat for all of our Branch 296 members. Our next meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at King's Restaurant in New Kensington, and we hope to see you. One event that we discussed is the Second Annual Tri-State Picnic to be held Saturday, May 19, at Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. This picnic is open to all of our members throughout the tri-state area. Last year's event was small but enjoyable, and we all agreed that we should meet again a year later. So, that means we want to see you and your families if you missed our inaugural event in 2011. Picnic type foods and drinks will be provided. We're asking that you contribute a side dish or a dessert. This year we're going to combine the picnic with a Join Hands Day project. For all our youth members who are interested in community service hours, this would be an awesome opportunity for you. If you're unable to participate in the Join Hands part of the day, that's perfectly alright; we'd still love to see you. Please see the ad for our Tri-State Picnic in this publication. Besides the Tri-State Picnic, Branch President Diane Torma also mentioned the University of Pittsburgh's Hungarian Room Committee. If any of you have visited this or any of Pitt's Nationality Rooms in the Cathedral of Learning, you've undoubtedly left with a favorable impression. Diane mentioned that the Hungarian Room Committee is seeking new members. A small donation is required for membership, and it would be something that would enhance your Magyar ancestral background. If you are interested, please contact Diane at: dtorma@ivilliampennassociation.org. Several members expressed interest in attending a Pirates game. Okay, so the Buccos haven't had a winning season in 18 years (which, by the way, is equivalent to a generation), but PNC Park is the most beautiful park in the Majors, my friends! The food, the pierogi races, the giveaways, and maybe, just maybe, the Bucs may surprise us with a win! What do you say? We could have a William Penn Night at PNC Park, see our name on the scoreboard and let out a cheer. Our neighboring branches could join us for a fun night at the ball yard. By the way, John Torma and I have something interesting in common: we've both thrown out the first pitch at a Pirates game. Now, what are the odds of having two members from the same branch who have done that? Maybe there are more of you. If so, contact me and let me know. In fact, if any other members have had the wonderful opportunity of throwing out the first pitch at a Major League game, you get in touch with me, too. It's a rare opportunity and one that John and I won't soon forget. Lastly, happy Mother's Day to all of the important women in our lives. Some mothers and grandmothers have been there for us as we entered this world and have loved and nurtured us. Others entered our lives and have acted in the place of our mothers. We love them and thank them. May those women who have passed on ahead of us rest in peace. For your questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at 274- 274-5318 or at makelly367@verizon.net. And, of course, for your insurance and annuity needs, please contact our agent Noreen Fritz, FIC, LUTCF (who hasn't visited PNC Park yet) at 412-821-1837 or at noreenbunny.fritz@ verizon.net. Branch 352 Coraopolis, PA by Dora S. McKinsey As I'm writing this article, it is snowing outside. Sometime soon this cold weather will end! On Saturday, May 19th, the Second Annual Tri-State Area Picnic will be held up at Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. In the morning, we will perform clean-up duties at Scenic View beginning at 10 a.m. as part of Join Hands Day. The picnic will begin with lunch at around noon and continue until 4:00 p.m. This is a family picnic, so bring with you the makings of any games you and your family would like to participate in. It promises to be a fun-filled day, but only with your participation will that be possible! Please join us. William Penn Life 0 May 2012 0 25
