Branch News Branch 10 Barton, OH Branch 40 Martins Ferry, OH Branch 248 Monaville, WV Branch 349 Weirton, WV Branch 8164 Steubenville, OH by Joyce Nicholson Hello from the WPA branches in Barton, Martins Ferry, Weirton, Steubenville and Monaville! Spring and warmer weather has finally arrived in the greater Ohio Valley. We remind our college students that the deadline is quickly approaching to submit your applications for grants from the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. The application form or your renewal letter, along with your essay, must be postmarked by May 31. Our branches participated in an outing on Sunday, March 25, to the Wheeling Nailers hockey game. It was a great game, but, unfortunately, the Nailers lost in an overtime shootout to the Elmira Jackals. Nevertheless, the Nailers continued into the playoff round anyway. The small group of members who attended had a fun time together at the event. Hold the date June 3 for a joint branch picnic with the Ohio Valley Hungarian Club at Warren Township Park in Yorkville, Ohio, at 1:00 p.m. Bring a dessert or side dish. Everything else will be provided. Hope to see you there! Don't forget the Hungarian Heritage Experience is coming up Aug. 5 to 11 at Scenic View. You can learn about the Hungarian language, traditions, foods and culture. Call the Home Office to make your reservations: 1-800-848-7366. We want to wish a happy birthday and happy anniversary to those members with birthdays and anniversaries this month. For information about branch activities, please call Joyce Nicholson at 740-264-6238. WPA members Teresa and Nick Toth are welcomed to the March 25th Wheeling Nailers hockey game by team Mascot Spike and his young assistant. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, MI by Barbara A. House We are home. I cannot tell you how good it feels. It is always nice to get away but even nicer to be home. Now, if Debbie and family lived closer to us, our lives would be perfect. Welcome new members Dusty Allanson and Jamie Wolfe. They are our new granddaughter and her son. Welcome to the William Penn family. Special get well wishes to some special people: Emma Borsa, Arpad Antal and Rey Holguin. Hope you are all better soon. Joe and Wanda Gall visited Branch 18 country and Mom for about a week. They had a great time. Their home is in Mississippi where Mom is now, but just for a visit. I realize it is early, but I must start working on our branch trip to the WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest scheduled for Sept. 7 and 8.1 met with some members from Flint and found they would like to be included in our group this year. We are thrilled to have them join us. The more the merrier. The cost for members is $90 per person. This includes the bus ride, hotel and admission to the picnic. Once there, it is all you can eat and drink. Now, how can you beat that? There are plenty of events and activities to keep you busy the entire day. I promise you the best time ever. Please contact me as soon as possible for your reservation. We need to know what size bus to reserve. When you read this, the Carousel Ball in New Jersey will be just a memory. Our National President, George S. Charles, Jr., was one of the honorees that night, receiving the Abrahm Lincoln Award. (See Page 3 for more on the hall.) There is no more deserving person than Pete. Congratulations, my friend. Plans are moving right along for the WPA trip to Prague and Hungary Sept. 21 to Oct. 5. The cost is $3,050 per person, based on double occupancy. That price includes round trip airfare, all hotels, all tours and most of your meals. Please secure your spot as soon as possible. I can't wait to see you all. I know we are going to have a great time. Our next branch meeting will be held May 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hungarian American Cultural Center on Goddard Road in Taylor. We continue to support Basil's Buddies Animal Shelter. Please bring your donation to our meeting. This is 22 0 May 2012 0 William Penn Life
