Branch News On Oct. 24, members of Branch 28 joined Hungarian Americans of the Youngstown, Ohio, area in remembering the people and events of Hungary's 1956 Revolution during special services held at the Freedom Fighters memorial in Youngstown. edged all our past 50-year members and welcomed Tom Kuty to this special group. His grandfather was a very active member with the former Verhovay Aid Association as well as a part of the merger that formed WPA. Inclement weather kept attendance at this event lower than usual, but all those who did attend enjoyed a nice appreciation dinner at the Golden Corral. Get well wishes go out to all those under the weather, especially Betty Check, Terry Check Sr., Irene Devlin and Frank Tobias. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Árpád Sibrik The Cultural Club of the Hungarian Reformed Church held a beautiful celebration Oct. 22 to commemorate the Hungarian Revolution against the Communists and the Russian occupation. A nice dinner was held in memory of those days. We extend our condolences to the Relle family on the passing of Ferenc M. Relle. He was a longtime member of WPA. He was also an avid Civitan member who singlehandedly organized 22 Civitan clubs in Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and other places, all at his own expense. Branch 129 will hold its Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1:00 p.m at the Elks Clubs, 2140 Sonora Drive, Grove City, Ohio. Food, catered by the Cultural Club, will be served at 2:00 p.m. Congratulations to Ilona Relle, a member of Branch 129, for winning first prize in the WPA scholarship essay contest. We extend our condolences to the family of Andy Jámbor. May he rest in peace. Branch 296 Springdale, PA by Patty Balia On Dec. 4 we held our Christmas party at the Springdale Veterans Association. It was another successful party. Thank you to the WPA Board of Directors and the Home Office staff for their assistance in making this branch Christmas party a success. Not only do these parties bring joy to the kids, but they also allow parents and grandparents to have a lot of fun. The winning entries in the WPA scholarship essay contest, published in the November issue of William Penn Life, were essential reading. Some were noble, others whimsical, but all were heartfelt. Congratulations to the Scholarship Foundation's Executive Committee. I bet it was difficult to select which essays to honor. I think you did a good job. Congratulations to all the winners and all who participated. Special condolences are extended to National Director Roger Nagy and his family on the passing of Roger's wife, Donna.
