Branching Out OPPOSITE: Our 2010 WPA tour group gathers for a photo after visiting a wine cellar in Croatia. Day 5 Some of our travelers took time out to attend church services; others attended a local festival, "Bela Nedeja" (White Sunday). This festival is the celebration of the new wine with dance groups, music ensembles, craftsmen and others participating. Early in the afternoon, our group headed for a panoramic sightseeing tour to Rijeka to explore the beauties of the Krk Island, where we tasted some local wines and cheeses. Day 6 Early morning, after the group checked out of the hotel to travel back to Hungary, we stopped in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, for a short visit. The city is old and pleasant but over populated. While part of the former Yugoslavia, Zagreb was a leading industrial center. By mid-afternoon our group had departed for Hungary, saying to Croatia: zbogom! Truly, the memory of the beautiful Adriatic Sea will remain forever as a reminder of that part of Hungary which was dissected after World War I and the Trianon Treaty. □ William Penn Life 0 November 2010 ° 5 Help us tell our story In 2011, WPA will mark its 125th year of serving families, our heritage and the greater community- You can help us make it a memorable year by sharing with us any historical items you own relating to WPA and its predecessor organizations.
