WPA PICNIC A great day to be young or young at heart The WPA Picnic truly is a Great Fraternal Fest in that it brings together people of all ages for some old-fashioned, wholesome fun. It is especially gratifying to see hundreds of children and teenagers enjoying themselves so much. They are the future, and it is through events like our picnic that we share our heritage and values with the young so that they can continue our traditions for years to come. As part of our commitment to our youth, all proceeds from the activities held during the WPA Picnic benefit the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. This year's picnic raised $12,880 for the Foundation, which last year awarded grants to 193 students worth a total of $96,500. More than half of the funds raised at the picnic~$6,965~came from the Chinese Auction. The remainder was raised through the sale of homemade pastries ($2,253), funnel cakes ($463), lángos ($385), WPA cookbooks ($160) and Scenic View aprons ($80); the 50/30/20 raffle ($1,421); the Autumn Basket drawing ($152); donations ($1,051). We thank all of you who supported these activities. Your generosity will help many deserving young people achieve their dreams of attaining a higher education. Photos by John E.
