WPA PICNIC If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder without any such gift from the fairies, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with hlfn the joy, excitement, and mystery of the world we live in. - Rachel Carson Inaugural fishing contest catches on with young members by Anne Marie Schmidt Photos by Anne Marie and Mark Schmidt W hat a beautiful day it was at the WPA Picnic for a new activity—fishing at the lake. WPA provided bait and tackle for youth ages 1 to 16 to try their luck at a fishing contest. The response was overwhelming as many children, assisted by their parents and grandparents, participated for several hours trying to catch "the big one." Many spectators lazed on the grass watching the event, serenaded by the beautiful Hungarian music of George Bátyi and his orchestra. An array of fish was caught, including blue gill, bass, sunfish and perch. Congratulations to the winners, pictured with me here (1-r): Aaron Kovács, Michael Price, Luke Price and Jaysen Smith (in back). It was heartwarming to see the smile on the children's faces when they caught their first fish and to enjoy the special interaction between parent and child. Thanks to all who helped and participated, and we hope to see you next year. FISHING CATCH {HÉLCAiE PÓL E5 PROVIDEDt V QGeS 1-1Q Years I ’UNDER ÍYRS Must bt With 1 o °orerrt!
