Branch News Sharing a moment at the Branch 8121 picnic this July are (l-r) Branch Treasurer Steve Marconi, Branch President Mary Lou Schutz, Melinda Marconi, Branch Vice President Alice Rigard, Nick Marconi and Marilyn Marconi. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank The autumn season is in full swing now, and it's really a nice time of the year. The weather's gentler and not as hot. The colors of the leaves make the scenery even more beautiful. Now is a good time to get some exercise by taking walks through state parks or other outdoor areas before cold weather begins. Happy Halloween to all on Oct. 31 from Branch 800. In these times, parents should take the time, for safety reasons, to be with their children as they go out seeking goodies. The kids love and look forward to this night of laughter and getting spooked. Our branch picnic in August was, without a doubt, a very nice affair. The weather, food and friendship among members were top notch. The branch saw to it that each person attending received a nice bag of Cracker Jacks and a door prize. God willing, we hope to see you all next year. Thanks to all those who helped make our picnic successful. Now, looking ahead, it will soon be time to turn our clocks back as Eastern Standard Time begins on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2:00 a.m. This is also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Our branch's annual memorial Mass for deceased members will be held Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Altoona. Please bring a nonperishable food item for the needy. It's also time to start preparing for the branch family Christmas party, which will be held Sunday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the social hall of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona. Call me at 814-695-0213 by Dec. 1 to make your reservations. May the good Lord bless our men and women serving in the military both at home and overseas. Have you checked your life insurance policy lately to see if your address and beneficiaries are up to date? Don't hesitate to call Bob Jones in Altoona at 814-942-2661 to make any changes needed or to learn about all the ways the WPA can help you and your family. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA by Noreen Fritz, FIC, LUTCF I would like to thank all the members that attended the annual steak fry and made it a very enjoyable evening. Taking the time to gather together as families and neighbors to have a delicious meal and enjoy each others friendship is a way to spend quality time and build memories. Branch 8121 St. Marys, PA by Mary Lou Schutz Members young and young-at-heart from Branch 8121 gathered July 9 for a picnic sponsored by the branch at Gunners Restaurant in St. Marys. All who attended enjoyed the food and fellowship shared by family and friends. Members also gathered Sept. 3 for our monthly branch meeting. A "Basket of St. Marys" was prepared with the help of Branch Treasurer Steve Marconi. About a dozen locally made items filled the basket. The bed and breakfast also arranged for shipping the basket to Pittsburgh. William Penn Life, October 2008 19
