Rain can’t dampen fraternal spirit at annual WPA Picnic On Sept. 13 the William Penn Association held its 8th annual picnic. With the threat of rain forecasted for the day, picnic goers from far and near braved the raindrops to enjoy a day of good Hungarian food, music and dancing. Friendships were rekindled while many new ones were made. The Scholarship Foundation was the biggest winner of the day with donations totaling more than $10,000 from various fundraisers. A new record was raised from our Chinese auction, while the remaining funds were raised through raffles, donations and the sale of pastries, langos, palacsinta, funnel cake and WPA cookbooks. I would like to thank everyone who gave their time to help make this a very successful event. I would especially like to thank those who kept the volunteers well fed throughout the week giving us the strength to prepare for the picnic. This year we had several new volunteers who unselfishly gave of their precious time to spend the week with us and prepare for the event. I would like to personally thank each and every one of you. It is members like you that make this annual event an overwhelming success. We are already preparing for next year's event. We are always looking to improve our picnic and are planning several additions to encourage younger members to participate. We will be announcing these changes in the upcoming issues. For those who have enjoyed this event over the years, we ask that next year you make an effort to bring someone new who hasn't had the opportunity to enjoy our picnic. I'm sure they won't be disappointed. Once again, thanks to all and see you next year. Sfow i/ar&a 6 William Penn Life, October 2008
