Migliorini Striking a Chord Continued from Page 7 say, it was terribly difficult. To have to redo all of the work I'd done because someone was too sure of themselves and gave me wrong information was difficult to swallow. But I had to do what I had to do, so I did it. It took me weeks to refinish it, and by Labor Day, the guitar re-premiered in all of it's glory. WPL: After going through all that, what was the most rewarding aspect of this project for you? KL: The most rewarding things were, first, finishing it—I mean really finishing it (the second time)--and then definitely, when I saw a family reading it, taking the time to look over the whole guitar, studying the pictures and reading the writing front and back. It worked. A piece is successful in my opinion when it draws someone in from a distance, and then has enough substance to keep them in front of it studying it longer. Whether it's public art or a painting in a museum, I think that holds true. The large red guitar drew them in, and the photos captivated them long enough to want to read the words. It worked! WPL: How do you hope the guitar will affect people? KL: I want people to learn something about the Magyar history, about the history of the Hungarians in the city and all over the world. So many people know someone Hungarian. I want them to see them with a refreshed view. I want people to be opened by the photos to see something of themselves in the people in them. I want people to relate it to events of today, to see things from a different perspective. |WPL| Recent Donations WPFA Scholarship Foundation NOVEMBER 2007 Branch - Donor - Amount I - Maria E.
