For Starters Chinese Auction Returns to WPA Picnic Those of you who attended the 25th Annual Golf Tournament and Scholarship Days noticed something different this year. That's right-there was no Chinese auction. Many of you let us know how much you missed it. So, in answer to your many requests, we are now preparing to hold a Chinese auction at the 8th Annual WPA Picnic-A Great Fraternal Fest. The picnic will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, at Penn Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. If you would like to donate a prize basket for the auction, please bring it with you to the picnic or send it to Ronda at the Home Office in Pittsburgh by Sept. 5. Please call Ronda at 1- 800-848-7366, ext. 112, to let us know what you are bringing. All proceeds from the Chinese auction go directly to the WPFA Scholarship Foundation. Thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you at the picnic. An Open Letter to All Past Scholarship Recipients from the Board of Directors and National Officers Dear Recipient: We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to you as a past recipient of our scholarship grant program. Your scholarship was made possible by your parents and/or grandparents who had the foresight to know that this was one of the many fraternal benefits offered with your life insurance membership in the William Penn Association. Since the inception of our scholarship program in 1972, 4,497 scholarship grants have been distributed amounting to a total of $ 1,889,150. We would like to request from you a photo and a brief biographical outline of your accomplishments since your graduation from college. This would appear in our monthly publication, William Penn Life, and would serve as an inspiration to those seeking financial assistance through our scholarship program. It would illustrate to future applicants that dedication and devotion set the goals for their college years and beyond. As you have benefited from our financial assistance, it is our hope and prayer that you will help your fellow members receive scholarship grants and follow in your footsteps to success. All donations may be made to the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. This is a tax deductible donation under Section 501 [c] [3] of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Send all donations to the attention of Diane M. Torma, National Vice President/Treasurer. May you continue to remember the William Penn Association for your life insurance protection and annuities for your future planned retirement needs. May you be richly blessed for your fraternal, financial and benevolent involvement as you remember with pride your college experience. Keep the “Flame of Fraternalism” burning for future generations. We thank you and our many members, friends and other donors who have financially supported our scholarship program over these many years. On a final note, we would appreciate your assistance in helping to keep our records updated by forwarding any name or address changes of past scholarship recipients to the Home Office, attention George S. Charles, Jr., National President. We are the Champions! Congratulations to the WPA-sponsored Little League team of the Steel Valley Youth Baseball Association (SVYBA) in Pittsburgh on winning this year's SVYBA World Series. WPA won the best-of three series two games to one. In the third and deciding game of the series, Matthew A. Toth (first row, center), son of National Vice President-Secretary Richard W. Toth, hit a two-out, two-run double in the first inning, sparking his term to a 9-1 victory. The SVYBA thanks the WPA for its generous sponsorship and support. 2 William Penn Life, August 2008
