TM with Főszakács Béla Merry Christmas FÁRAD JON BE A MAGYAR KONYHÁBA. Since this is my final installment of the Hungarian Kitchen in 2007,1 would like to review everything I have done this year, then set up a game plan for the future. This past spring I received my trademark letter for The Hungarian Kitchen. In June, I was certified as an Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation. In July, I ended eight wonderful years as a member of the WPA's National Auditing Committee, having faithfully served the Association. August had me celebrating seven years at Harvard. In September The Hungarian Kitchen went on the Internet. Also that month, I was elected to the WPA Board of Directors. While these might seem like personal accomplishments, it has always been my goal to promote Hungarian food, culture and the William Penn Association. It was another good year, but I can't stop and rest on these accomplishments. From one year to the next there should always be improvement. So here is my list for the coming year.... First on my list is to help promote education and the WPA's Scholarship Foundation. Our future is in the young people we nurture from birth till they're off to college. My intention is to use The HK to raise money for the scholarship fund, and I'll have some news about that in a future column. Second, I want to continue building HungarianKitchen.com so it will be a vehicle where others may learn about the traditions of Magyars and the William Penn Association. Steve Charles was responsible for getting me started on line, and for that I am very grateful. It's now up to me to fill in all the blanks by providing more information to build the archives and make HungarianKitchen.com a place you can go for all your Hungarian needs. I also would like to thank John Lovász, managing editor of the William Penn Life, for his help and patience every month with the columns and materials I submit. I hope to continue my professional relationship with both Steve and John to move the William Penn forward. Last, but not least, of my goals for the coming year is to be a Board member who looks out for the best interest of the WPA. It's easy to be a member of anything when all you have to do is join or sign up for a membership. When you're elected to be a member of something, there are responsibilities and expectations. It's not about me; it's about the WPA and all it represents and does for members. I wanted to be in a position to do more, and here I am. I have learned many things being a member of the WPA and working in many kitchens over the years. There is strength is numbers, AND the sharing of many ideas makes for a better finished product. Once you have the tools and acquire the power to use them, great things should happen. I have also learned nothing lasts forever, and you're only as good as your last meal. It's a smart person who takes control of his situation and makes it better. This coming year the focus will be on what I as an individual can do for the majority because the needs of the many outweigh the needs of a few. On that positive note I will leave you with recipes that have been requested for the Christmas season. Have a wonderful holiday with your family and friends. Kellemes karácsonyi ünnepeket! Jó Mng..
