As the air starts to turn colder in November, our thoughts begin to turn towards turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, parades and football games as Thanksgiving day approaches. This feast is all about family and giving thanks to our Creator for everything that we have. Happy Thanksgiving. Branch members and families are encouraged to attend our 70th annual memorial Mass honoring our deceased brother and sister members. It will be held on Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 2000 - 12th Ave., Altoona, with the Rev. James Zatalava as celebrant. Veterans Day on Nov. 11 is a holiday commemorating the armistice ending World War 1 in 1918 and honoring veterans of the armed forces. Today, all veterans of all wars are to be remembered. Birthday wishes to Branch Coordinator and Treasurer Bob Jones on his 65th birthday this month. Mr. Jones is a very active deer hunter and a pretty successful one at that. By the way, deer season begins Monday, Nov. 26. Best wishes to all big game hunters this year. Congratulations to Myron and Mary Yeager who are celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary. Monty Sayers held a special meeting for the officers and branch members to come up with new ideas for branch 8114. With officers Bob Donahue and Art Aaron retiring, the branch is looking for two people to fill these positions. Vanessa (Slike) Kriebel has expressed an interest, and she has the personality and ambition needed to lead our branch. Vanessa has her own flower shop on 5th Avenue in Clarion called Wilshires. Her work is beautiful. Why not stop in and say "hi" to her sometime. We still need one more friendly person willing to fill a vacant office. Could this be you? Branch meetings will continue on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception church meeting hall. The William Penn Association extends it deepest sympathy to the family and friends of member Elizabeth "Betty" Kurpis Hantz, who passed away recently. May she rest in peace. Members of Branch 8114 with birthday's in November are: Francis Bauer, Emily Gates, Ralph Judy, Harry Lambing, George Niederriter, Brian Seitz, Stephen Zacherl, Bernard Gatesman, Dylan Jones, Elsie Hanoid, Matthew Hurst, David Ragley, Brian Fague, Ruby Summerville, James Distler, William Reinsel and Pauline Hargenrader. Best wishes for a very Happy Birthday! Let's talk turkey! Thanksgiving by Mary Lou Schutz The members of Branch 8121 gathered for a regular business meeting on Oct. 3 at the St. Marys Church Annex. It was agreed our branch will sponsor a Mass during 2008 at St. Marys Church. We will also begin making plans for our Christmas party next month. A Halloween card was sent to Branch Secretary Margaret Marconi who is now at the Brockway Home. We ask you to keep Margaret in your thoughts and prayers. We wish a happy and blessed Thanksgiving to all our members, their families and friends. Branch 8321 Windber, PA by Edward T. Surkosky Our branch held a regular business meeting Sept. 23 at the St. Anthony of Padua Church in Windber. We shared memories of our members' participation in the feast of St. Anthony of Padua on June 13 and at the church's annual bazaar held in July. Our members also volunteered their services at the church's spaghetti dinner held in October. We will hold a joint meeting with the church's Holy Name Society in November during which our two organizations will honor our deceased members. We extend to all of our members and friends our branch's best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving. 20 William Penn Life, November 2007
