Branch News Branch 8114 President Kevin Slike (center) joined his fellow branch members in honoring two branch officers who will be retiring after many years of loyal and dedicated service: Branch Treasurer Robert V. Donahue (left) and Branch Secretary Arthur A. Aaron. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA by Noreen Fritz It's amazing how many members have telephoned me thinking that something happened to me because I didn't have the branch news in the September issue. Please allow me to explain. Branch 8114 is in the process of electing new officers because of the retirement of Bob Donahue and Art Aaron. The branch news deadline is one month prior to the publication. The annual steak fry was on Aug. 26, so until the meeting that was held after the steak fry, I didn't have current information. The steak fry was well attended and the food and fellowship was excellent as usual! Bob Donahue has been treasurer of the Clarion branch for 42 years, and Art Aaron has been secretary for 20 years. At the gathering, they announced that they wish to retire. The current branch President Kevin Slike said that he would like to continue as branch president. Kevin is a one-of -a -kind person. He is so dependable at his position as president, and I have heard about all the people that he helps around the Clarion area, especially the elderly. There were several speakers at the meeting. The Rev. Monty Sayers talked about the history of the former Catholic Knight's of St. George and the importance of keeping the branch together by electing replacement officers for the treasurer and secretary positions. He also talked about the importance of young people, especially newlyweds, to be insured. He is very enthusiastic in setting new goals for the branch and, when time permits, will set a date for me to talk at a seminar to the young people of the Immaculate Conception Congregation concerning the importance of life insurance. Father Monty, with his unique sense of humor and ideas, is really a blessing to Branch 8114. Lifetime members Donald Schmader and Gordon Rice, using their excellent communication skills, had very complimentary words concerning the WPA in their presentations at the meeting. Gordon talked about the benefits of becoming a member, the special juvenile certificate and the scholarships for the student members. Donald (the man that never ages) is extremely knowledgeable on the growth of the William Penn Association, and it was refreshing to hear his valuable contribution to the meeting. Both Donald and Gordon played an important part in the growth of the Catholic Knight's of St. George/ William Penn Association membership. At the end of May 2008, the branch will be entering into its 100th year of existence. The WPA, the National Officers, Board of Directors and I would like for Bob Donahue and Art Aaron to know how much we appreciate all that they have done for us. We appreciate all the time and effort that they have devoted to performing the duties of their respective positions. They have held the branch together for many years. Their important fraternal contributions are held in high regard by all. Thank you for all your volunteer services.
