Bowling returns to Pittsbuigh Spring will soon be here (we hope), and with it will come the beginning of another season of WPA activities. We'll kick off our schedule of great fraternal events with the 63rd edition of the Annual Bowling Tournament and Scholarship Days. The tournament, which in the past has been held over the Memorial Day weekend, will be held instead over the first weekend in May in Pittsburgh. The tournament weekend will begin Friday, May 5, with the annual meeting of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation, Inc. The meeting will take place at the Radisson Hotel Pittsburgh Greentree. After the meeting, all bowlers and guests are welcome to a reception in the hotel, featuring plenty of food, refreshments and good old-fashioned fraternal fellowship. The adult bowling tournament will begin Saturday, May 6, with the team event and continues on Sunday, May 7, with the doubles and singles events. All bowling events will take place at Princess Lanes, the site of several previous tournaments. Also on Saturday, the WPA will host its 10th Annual Juvenile Fun Event, a bowling event designed specifically for the enjoyment of children ages 15 and under. The emphasis will be on fun, and everyone will leave a winner. Free shuttle bus transportation between the hotel and bowling lanes will be available. Once again, the WPA is adding to the excitement of the adult tournament by offering a special $10,000 prize to the first eligible member who bowls a perfect 300 game during Saturday's team event. To be eligible for this prize, a bowler must (1) be an adult life-benefit member of the William Penn Association as of April 1,2006, with at least one year's premium paid; and (2) be age 18 or older. Also, a $5,000 prize will be awarded to the first non-member age 18 or older who bowls a perfect 300 game during Saturday's team event. On Saturday evening, bowlers and guests will gather in casual attire for the bowling tournament awards dinner at the Radisson Hotel. The evening will feature a pre-dinner cash bar, a buffet dinner and door prizes. The evening will conclude with the awarding of a very special prize. • Adult Tournament Entry Form Page 9 • Awards Dinner Reservation Form Page 10 • Juvenile Fun Event Entry Form Page 11 Packets containing information, entry forms and hotel and awards dinner reservation forms will be mailed to all 2005 team captains. All entries for the adult tournament must be postmarked no later than March 18,2006. For the Juvenile Fun Event, all entries must be received by March 24,2006. The awards dinner reservations must be sent to the Home Office by April 13,2006. All hotel reservations must be sent directly to the Radisson Hotel Pittsburgh Greentree. The Home Office, bowling committee and members of branches in the greater Pittsburgh area are all working hard to make this an especially memorable weekend. We hope you and your family will join us.
