Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank It's St. Patrick's Day on March 17. Enjoy the luck of the Irish and celebrate the patron saint of Ireland. Now, we all know the popular food for the day will be corned beef and cabbage. But, did you know that, originally, corned beef and cabbage were the traditional meal served on Easter Sunday in rural Ireland? It was a meat that could be preserved during the winter and then eaten when the Lenten fast was over. Wear the green and enjoy the day. Your branch members have approved a $500 donation to be sent to St. Dismas Parish, which is located inside the prison in Huntingdon, Pa. The Catholic chaplain is always appreciative of the donation. He uses it to purchase items to help enhance the spiritual life of the prisoners. Are you ready for spring? Let's face William Penn Life, March 2006 15
