The Hungarian Kitchen with Főszakács Béla FARADJON BE A MAGYAR KONYHÁBA. I had a great time at the bowling tournament in Pittsburgh. The weather was very nice and we enjoyed great bowling and fraternalism. Congratulations to all the bowling winners and those that won raffle and Chinese auction prizes as well. The big winner of course is the WPFA Scholarship Foundation, which took in a nice amount of money to help those WPA students that will attend college. New cookbook sales also helped put money into the fund. Once again to all those that contributed to the cookbook with recipes and those that have purchased the cookbook: you have shaped the future for a lot of students. Practical Pointer To prevent sausages from shrinking in the pan when cooking, roll them in flour which reduces the surface tension and also gives a nice brown color as the flour cooks. To add a little more flavor to your sausages when cooking, try a sprinkle or two of cayenne pepper and ground thyme. I will be at the Hungarian Heritage Experience in Rockwood, Pa. this summer in the month of August. There is still room left for more students that want to share the experience. Call 1-800-848-7366, Ext. 136, to make your reservation and have the Magyar time of your life. In my travels since the bowling tournament, I was in New Brunswick, N.J., for the Carousel Ball which is an event to benefit the American Hungarian Foundation. It was nice to meet a few more fans of the Hungarian Kitchen and get their thoughts for a few future columns. Chef Vilmos and I never rest when it comes to cooking and providing more information about Hungarian food. So many recipes and so little time but we all do the best we can. Don't forget: I will be at the William Penn Picnic in September giving cooking demonstrations and samples of some of the recipes in the new cookbook. Come taste some great food and have a nice day at Penn Scenic View. I'll have more about that in an upcoming column. On June 3 the WPA will have a booth at the Hungarian Festival in New Brunswick, N.J. There will be plenty of good Hungarian food to be eaten along with tours of the Hungarian Heritage Center and some entertainment in the way of dancers or musicians. The festival is in the Hungarian section of New Brunswick and it usually brings out all the local dignitaries, including delegates from the Hungarian Consulate in New York or Embassy in Washington. I always enjoy going back to New Jersey for this event because it is in my old neighborhood. The people have changed along with some of the neighborhood buildings, but you can still get the best Hungarian food...just like grandma used to make! Stop by and say "hi" because the William Penn will have a booth. Yes, we will be selling cookbooks, so if you haven't gotten yours yet, here's your chance. Well, that takes care of all the housekeeping for the month. I do 16 William Penn Life,June 2006
