In Memóriám JOHN SABO Former National President ELIZABETH TWP., PAThe entire Association was saddened by the death of former National President John Sabo. Mr. Sabo, 89, passed away Jan. 3,2005. He began a long and distinguished career of service to the Association in 1934 when, at the age of 19, he was elected president of Verhovay Aid Association Branch 395. His dedication and hard work earned him the respect of his fellow members and recognition from members throughout the Association. In 1943, he was elected by the Verhovay's General Convention to serve as the Association's National Controller. He served in that position for the next 26 years until 1969, when he resigned to assume a position with Associated Life in Chicago. Shortly thereafter, he assumed new duties with the actuarial firm of Bruce and Bruce Company, Inc. Mr. Sabo remained very active in the affairs of the WPA. In 1971, he was elected as a member of the WPA Board of Directors. He served three terms on the Board before being elected National President in 1984. He retired in 1986. He was bom on Aug. 6, 1915, in McKeesport. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his nation during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was husband of the late Ethel Halas Sabo and Margaret Stefan Sabo. He is survived by his stepson Robert L. Turkoly-Joczik, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A blessing service was conducted at Striffler's of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services in White Oak, Pa. Entombment was in Versailles Cemetery, McKeesport. May he rest in peace.
