In Memóriám ALEXANDER J. HORVATH SOUTH BEND, IN-The members of Branch 132 and the entire Association were saddened by the recent death of Illustrious ■ Member and President Alexander J. Horvath. Mr. died Aug. 24, 2005, in his home. Mr. Horvath was a loyal and dedicated member who tirelessly served the WPA on both the branch and national levels. He served as a branch officer for the past 34 years, including seven terms as branch president. He also represented his branch as a delegate to the past nine General Conventions. For more than 40 years, he volunteered to assist the branch whenever and wherever it need help. In the late 1960's he was among those who volun­teered their time and effort to renovate the branch's club. For the past eight years, he spear­headed the branch's volunteer efforts to help clean up the public boat launch and St. Pat's Park. "If we had a dinner­­dance, he would help make the sausage and gulyás, help set up the tables and chairs, then usually served as one of the bartenders," said friend and fellow member Frank J. Wukovits Jr. "Whenever we would start a project, and others would get tired and quit, Alex would never quit." He was bom Aug. 26, 1914, in South Bend. He retired from the South Bend Tribune in 1979 after 27 years of service. Prior to his work at the Tribune, he worked for the Hungar­ian Print Shop at City Life Publishing Co. He was a World War II army veteran, serving in the 6th Armored Division of Patton's 3rd Army. Surviving are his wife Anna; three daughters, Paula Cirillo, Susan Marshall and Judi May; a son, Alexander; five grandchildren; a sister, Mary E. Stygar; and two brothers, Rudolph and Louis. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church. Burial was at Highland Cem­etery. MARGARET (VARGO) JOZIK MARTINSBURG, WV - The members of Branch 226 McKeesport, Pa., and throughout the Associa­tion were saddened by the recent death of Margaret (Vargo) Jozik. Mrs. Jozik, 87, died Aug. 23, 2005. Longtime members may remember that Mrs. Jozik wrote a column for the Verhovay Journal in the 1940s. It was in that capacity that she met Albert Jozik, who at the time was the Journal's editor. They were married in 1944. Albert preceded her in death in 1987. She was bom Nov. 18, 1917, in Newark, Ohio, and grew up in the Fairmont, W.Va., area. She earned degrees from Fairmont University and taught in Marion County, W.Va., for eight years and in McKeesport for 25 years before retiring in 1982. She was selected as the Outstanding Alumna of Fairmont University in 1988. She was a member of St. Pius V. Church and served as treasurer of the McKeesport Area Associa­tion of Retired School Personnel. She is survived by a daughter, Margie Cruz; two sons, Albert and Paul; four grandchildren; a sister, Irene Otto; a brother, Albert Vargo; and eight nieces and nephews.
