University. He was very well educated. As a Quaker, he believed in fairness, equality, no violence, no war. For his beliefs he was imprisoned. Finally, his father, Admiral Penn, made a deal with the king. William Penn was freed from prison and was given a large wooded area in the colonies. So, in 1681, a charter was granted. The king's council had added "sylvania" (woods) to the charter, so William Penn established the state of Pennsylvania (Penn's woods) where people of every nationality and religion were welcomed. Penn founded the city of Philadelphia. He was so fair in his dealings that the treaty that he made with the Native Americans was the only treaty that was never broken. His legacy had a strong influence in establishing the principles underlying the Constitution of the United States of America. These facts may help explain why our non-profit fraternal organization took the name "William Penn Association." May the spirit of William Penn live long in our minds and in the Association that bears his name. Branch 129 Columbus, OH by Árpád Sibrik Congratulations to the Branch 129 bowlers. The ladies and mens teams won some money at the tournament. The golfers had some good results, too. Dolores Horvath had the longest drive for the senior ladies. John Horvath's team finished second with a score of 10-under. Several other members won prizes in the Chinese auction. Friday's reception was very nice and Saturday night's banquet was great, thanks to the Home Office staff. The Columbus Hungarian Reformed Church hosted ceremonies installing Rev. Zsolt Otvos on Aug. 27. The service was conducted by Rev. Karl Ludwig, bishop of the Calvin Synod. Several other Reformed ministers were in attendance. We have some sad news to report. Steve Rezes passed away at age 91. He was buried Aug. 10. May he rest in peace. Our condolences to his family. Branch News Gertrude Relle is feeling much better after hip replacement surgery. Her husband Ferenc also underwent surgery on a growth on his face. Ferenc is planning to go to Hungary to receive his "diamond diploma" from the university in Budapest, recognizing the 60th anniversary of his receiving his degree in chemical engineering. His son Ference Jr. and daughter-in-law Candace will accompany him on his trip. While in Hungary, they will also attend the annual convention of the Hungarian Civitan Club to be held in Szekesfehavar. Our next branch meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank It's that time of the year as we get ready to observe the Labor Day holiday on Sept. 5. Sure hope that all of you had a nice summer vacation, and that you were able to actually experience all that you had planned for the summer months. It won't be long now until summer turns to autumn on Sept. 22. That means the colors of fall. The forest rangers tell us that the maple trees are usually the first to change and provide the most brilliant colors. So, enjoy the beauty that Mother Nature is getting ready to provide us before the cold weather sets in. Birthday greetings go out to two branch members this September: Tom Murphy, 75, and John Ajay, 80. Both are enjoying their retirement. Blessings to both of you.
