Until we meet again. Branch 249 Dayton, OH by Anne Marie Schmidt The officers of Branch 249 would like to extend to all our members our wishes for a very happy and healthy New Year. Our prayers and best wishes go out to all of our members who are ill, in nursing homes or serving in our armed forces. May the new year bring peace and prosperity to our troubled world. A special thank you to all who attended and helped with our annual Christmas party. We hope everyone had a good time. We invite your comments and suggestions for next year. It is so nice to spend some holiday time with our members, and we also welcome new members to our festivities. We will have open bowling for our members and friends beginning in 2005 at Pla-Mor Lanes, 4901 Linden Ave., Dayton. We will meet on the second Sunday of each month, January through May, at 3:00 p.m. The cost will be $7.50 per person for three games. This will be a fun activity and will help prepare us for the Annual Bowling Tournament. No reservations are needed for our open bowling. Just come and bowl and enjoy! Plans are being made to charter a bus to Detroit for the Annual Bowling Tournament in May. We are trying to include a trip to the casino, too. For a reasonable cost-including bus trans­portation, snacks and beverages-you can leave the driving to us. Parents and grandparents: please be sure to inquire about the WPA's great juvenile policies for a very minimal cost. Help us keep this wonderful association active locally. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman Branch 590 held its picnic Nov. 4 at the Gilchrist Park in Punta Gorda, Fla., along the Peace River. The day was beautiful with a nice breeze coming from the river. Games of bean toss, putting green and bingo were enjoyed. Door prize winners were John Hirsch, Kalman Nagy and Eugene Toth. There was plenty of good food and music, and everyone enjoyed the bacon fry. Get well wishes go out to Yolan Mickel, the Rt. Rev. Zoltán Király, Margaret Mertner, Rose Darab, Michael Damon and Mike Benedict. We were saddened to hear of the death of Alex Goydan. He was a gentleman in the true sense. Our condolences to his family. Happy anniversary to Pam and Dave Damon, Courtney and Jeff Damon and Debbie and Tim Meehan. Happy belated birthday to Timmy Meehan, Mike Tomcsak, Joan Mauerman, Eugene Toth, Helen Toth, Krista Hopper, Colin Hughes, Carrie Damon, Julia Nagy, Caitlynn Damon and Becky Mae Eagen. Branch 590 ended up giving out 10 Holiday Baskets. Thanks to the Home Office for its help, calendars and Christmas donations. On Dec. 9,1 attended the Port Charlotte Hungarian Club Christmas party at the Golden Coral in Puenta Gorda. The tables were decorated with colorful doilies and live poinset­­tia plants. There was plenty of food and carols were sung. Helen Toth gave everyone lovely handmade tree decorations. On Dec. 12, Branch 590 held its Christmas party at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Fort Myers. A business meeting and election of officers were held prior to the dinner show. Reelected were: Mike Tomcsak, president; Tony Di Guillio, vice president; Joan Mauerman, secretary­­treasurer and reporter; and Jodi Dues and Irene Slaughterbeck, auditors. The officers thank our members for their faith and confidence. We will strive to do our best. Door prize winners were Helen Rosner, Vi Shintski and Corrine Mitzger. Winners of the half-and-half drawing were Julia Nagy and Bob Menner. Kalman Nagy directed the singing of carols in both English and Hungarian. The dinner was delicious and the show was lively. There was a lot of dancing, and, of course, Mr. and Mrs. Claus were there and did a skit called "Santa Baby." The only thing missing 18 William Penn Life, January 2005
