Branch 800 member John Conti (center) receives congratulations on his 50 years of membership from branch officers (l-r) Robert Jones, coordinatortreasurer; Daniel Greiner, vice president; Vincent Frank, president; and George Dorman, secretary. at home after a recent hospital stay. Congratulations to Emily and Pat Damon on the birth of their third child, Allison. She joins sister Caitlynn and brother Austin. She is my 12th great-grand-child. Her grandparents are my daughter Pam and her husband Dave Damon of West Chester, Ohio. Mike Tomcsak attended the Fraternal Insurance Counsellor Convention in Atlanta April 28 to May 1. The convention included very informative classes and featured a lot of good speakers. The Florida Fraternal Congress held its annual convention May 12 to 15 at Cocoa Beach. This year I was not a member of any committees, so I had the chance to enjoy myself a little more. Last year, I was in charge of the hospitality room and the Chinese Auction, and I went home exhausted. So, this year I planned on enjoying myself. The old, gray mare ain't what she used to be. Birthday wishes to all celebrating their special day this month. May you enjoy many more. Congratulations to Jamie Mauerman who graduated from Crawford High School May 27. She plans on attending college in Waco, Texas. We also congratulate Joanie Mauerman for making the varsity cheerleading squad at Crawford High. Joanie is a freshman and a straight-A student. For all your life insurance and annuity needs, please call Mike Tomcsak at 863-858-8071. Branch News Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank This year Branch 800 had three members who reached 50 years of membership in the William Penn Association. Those members were honored during a special ceremony held during our branch's May meeting. Congratulations to honorees John J. Conti, James O. Kenawell and John F. Kenawell. Birthday greetings to branch member Joe Burger who is 80 years old this June. Mr. Burger loves his golfing and in on the Hollidaysburg Tree Commission which sees that our town is beautified with new trees along our streets. Each summer (and for many years) Joe picks the perfect area for a vacation--the lodge at our own Penn Scenic View. He and his wife are joined by his 10 children and many grandchildren. God bless you, Joe. Flag Day is June 14. Some think the American flag is nothing but cloth and color. But, the flag is a sacred symbol of freedom and liberty. The U.S. flag code states that a flag can be left up even in darkness and inclement weather, provided the flag is illuminated properly and is made of durable all-weather material. So, display Old Glory on its 228th birthday. Happy Father's Day to all fathers on June 19. May you all have an enjoyable day and may the good Lord bless you. Don't forget to mark your calendar for the Branch 800 summer picnic, Wednesday, Aug. 3, at Highland Park beginning at 6:00 p.m., rain or shine. Deadline for reservations is July 27. Call me at 814-695-0213. There will be no branch meetings in June, July or August.
