For Starters In Brief America’s fraternalists join nation in annual observance of Flag Day Golf tournament entries due June 21 PITTSBURGH — All members and friends of the WPA who plan to participate in this year’s Annual Golf Tournament are reminded that entry forms for the tournament are due June 21. The tournament will be held Saturday, July 23, at the Blackmoor Golf Club in Richmond, Ohio. Hotel accommodations will be at The Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester, W.Va. Citizens across this country will pause to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag on this day, including members of the WPA. You may ask, "why should I observe Flag Day?" Quite simply, our flag is more than a patchwork of cloth. It is the silent sentinel of our freedom. It is a constant reminder of the courage required to maintain our freedom, the liberty we enjoy in being self-governed, and the loyalty and trust which unites us despite our individual differences. WE'RE INTRODUCING a new regular feature to our magazine this month: "Branch Happenings." This new feature, found on Page 15, offers a quick and easy reference to most of the activities our branches are planning for the coming months. You'll also find information about activities and events in your community in which branch members On this National Flag Day, we encourage you to talk to your children, grandchildren or friends about what the flag means to you. Because others have given their fortunes and their very lives to secure our freedom, we have the freedom not to participate in this national observance. However, it is good that we pause to honor our nation's flag, for this act helps remind each of us that we are most blessed to be one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
