fi Scrambled up New format & resort venue add excitement to annual golf tournament A NEW FORMAT AND AN EXCITING VENUE await members and friends participating in the 22nd Annual WPA Golf Tournament, July 22 and 23. Golfers and non-golfing guests alike are sure to enjoy the headquarters for this year's toumament-The Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort in Chester, W.Va. Mountaineer features approximately 3,220 slot machines, a year-round thoroughbred racetrack, an upscale hotel with amenities, golf course, fine dining and entertainment, a theater and and a full-scale spa and fitness center. We've also added a bit of fun to this year's tournament. For the first time, our tournament will feature a scramble (best ball) format. This change will, among other things, allow golfers to finish their rounds sooner and thus have more time to enjoy all that the resort has to offer. To enter the tournament and reserve seats for the annual golf awards dinner, complete the form on the next page and send it to Richard W. Toth at the Home Office by June 21. Be sure you include your check covering tournament fees and dinner tickets. All golfers and guests must make their own room reservations directly with The Moun-taineer Race Track & Gaming Resort by calling 1-800-804-0468. Don't delay: make your reservations today! Fees and Costs The tournament entry fee is $38 for WPA adult life benefit members and $45 for non-members. This fee includes greens fees, cart and a sandwich and beverage at the turn. Room rates at Mountaineer are $99 per night for an intermediate level room at the hotel. Suites are also available for $159 per night. All rooms and suites will be reserved on a first-come/first-served basis and are subject to availability. Tickets for the golf awards dinner are $22 for adults age 16 and older, $11 for teens ages 13 to 15 and $5 for children ages three to 12. The weekend will begin Friday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. with a reception at The Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort. The reception will feature the annual putting contest benefiting the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. For the putting contest, all participants who sink three consecutive putts in one turn will win a cash prize. Other prizes will be awarded to those making one or two putts. The 18-hole tournament will be held Saturday, July 23, at the Blackmoor Golf Club in nearby Richmond, Ohio. Golfers will tee off in a scramble (best ball) format beginning at 7:00 a.m. for the first group. Hole-In-One Contest Once again, the tournament will feature the fun and exciting Hole-In-One Contests. All eligible members who score a hole-in-one at the designated par-3 hole during tournament play will win a $15,000 cash prize. Any non-member who scores an ace on the designated hole will win $7,500. Plus, cash prizes will be awarded to golfers who score a hole-in-one on any of Blackmoor's other par-3 holes during tournament play. On those holes, eligible WPA members will win $5,000, while non-members can take home $2,500. If a hole-in-one is not scored on the $15,000 hole, a special $500 cash prize will be awarded to the eligible member who gets his or her tee shot closest to the pin on that hole. By "eligible member" we mean a golfer who is an adult life benefit member of the William Penn Association by July 1,2005, with at least one year's premiums paid. All golfers (both members and non-members) are eligible for prizes to be awarded to the winners of the various skill shot contests to be conducted during tournament play. Buffet Dinner and Surprise Contest The weekend will close with the annual golf awards dinner at The Mountaineer Race Track & Gaming Resort Saturday. A cash bar will open at 4:00 p.m. which will be followed by a buffet dinner at 5:00 p.m. in the courtyard. After dinner, we will present awards and give away door prizes. All dinner guests will be eligible for door prizes. The grand finale-open only to WPA adult life benefit members attending the dinner-will be a Surprise Contest. Non-members will not be permitted to enter this contest. We could tell you more about it, but then it wouldn't be a surprise! For those golfers arriving early and wishing to play a practice round, you can reserve tee times at Blackmoor for Friday, July 22, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Call the golf club at 1-740-765-5502. This year's tournament promises to be a great fraternal weekend for all who attend. We hope to see you there. |wpl| 8 William Penn Life, May 2005
