Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Happy Easter to all! Easter, the feast of the resurrection of Christ from the dead. It is the most important liturgical feast of the year for all Christians throughout the world. Branch members should read the eligibility rules for this year's WPA scholarship grants (found on the inside of the front cover of this issue). Young members enrolling in a college or school or nursing, and who need financial help, should apply for a grant. Deadline for applications is May 31, 2004. It's baseball time again here in central Pennsylvania. The Altoona Curve (the AÁ affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) will open the 2004 home season on April 8. It will be refreshing to get out to the ballfield after a hard winter. It will be great to enjoy the games and see Branch 800 members and their families who support the team. See you there. Once again, the fishing season will soon be upon us. Nearly every angler who considers himself or herself a trout fisherman is chomping at the bit and counting down the days to trout season. For many, the April 17 opening day is far too long to wait. We wish you all a good catch the first day. The WPA will take part in the annual Join Hands Day, Saturday, May 1,2004. It's a day when youth and adults plan and work together to help their community. Branch 800 will be recognizing the branch's 50-year members at the May meeting. Those to be honored will be notified by mail. We thank those members for their loyalty to the best and soundest fraternal association in America. We encourage members to attend our branch meetings, which are held on the first Tuesday of each month from September through May. The meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes' religious education center. Mark your calendars: Our branch has scheduled its annual summer picnic for Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 6:00 p.m.-rain or shine-at Highland Park in Altoona. For your life insurance and annuity needs, please call Robert Jones at 814-942-2661. He is ready to help you. God bless the members of our military.
