William Penn Life, 2004 (39. évfolyam, 1-12. szám)

.....The Mail Bag Article rekindles both memories of and appreciation for those who came before us 1 am a new member of the William Penn Association. After looking at several investment options 1 chose a William Penn annuity, one of the reasons being the Association was founded in Hazleton, Pa. I grew up in West Hazleton and remember the miners of all ethnic groups in our town-Irish, Hungarian, Slovak, German and Italian. Both of my grandfathers and most of my uncles were miners. When I read the article "Fire in the Hole," it was a good feeling to know these miners are indeed remembered. Without their efforts the industrial revolution of 1900's would not have happened. The cost in lives lost should never be forgotten. I am a member of The Eckley Miners Village Association and a collector of mining artifacts. The Eckley Village is a state historical sight and preserves the anthracite heritage of Pennsylvania miners. Also, I am a member of The Ancient Order of Hibernians and the current treasurer of our division. It is truly good to remember those who made the way for us. My best wishes to all at the William Penn Association. Bryan Dunnigan & family Bloomsburg, PA We always welcome comments, criticisms and suggestions from our readers. The $250 to $500 mini-grants are being offered through the Youth & Family Outreach Department of the Points of Light Foundation. Join Hands Day supports youth-adult partnerships, and this mini-grant opportunity encourages more young people (up to age 25) to take the lead in creating those partnerships. Applications are due Feb. 2,2004. These grants will not be given directly to a fraternal benefit society branch or home office. This grant opportunity was created to engage the participation of non-fraternal benefit society organizations. However, as an 2 Williu Pern Life, January 2004 added incentive, preference will be given to any non-fratemal organization applicant that partners with a fraternal benefit society branch or home office. This is an extra incentive for nonfraternal groups—such as schools, churches, businesses, government and other non-profit agencies-to seek out fraternal benefit society branches and home offices as partners. These partnerships, if properly developed, may allow your society or branch to open the door to new members that have never worked with fratemalists in the past.
