Branch News Santa greets some of the members of Branch 296 during the branch’s annual family Christmas party. infectious. The entertainment was followed by a chorus of "Jingle Bells," which prompted the eagerly awaited arrival of Santa Claus. The wide-eyed children took turns sitting on Santa's lap to tell him their Christmas wishes. The "goodie" bags were then distributed to each child by Ralph Schuller. The afternoon concluded with a wonderful array of delicious homemade food and Christmas cookies. Much thanks to the Home Office and Board of Directors for the financial assistance and promotional items. Also, many thanks to the branch officers and members who gave so much of their time and effort to make this year's party successful: Ralph Schuller, John Rusak, George and Irene Charles, Helen and Boris Gosciejew and Marge Kosheba. Thanks to Martha Schuller for the large amounts of food and homemade rolls; thank you to the Schuller daughters, Tammy Dombroski, Joyce Burley and Brenda Hurlbut for offering your time and talent in contributing to the party. Thanks to Ron Balia for arranging Santa's arrival. He was great! Your donation is appreciated. Everyone seemed to have an especially good time this year. We welcome your comments and suggestions for future parties. Our branch decided to sponsor five holiday baskets this year for those in need. Thank you to the Board of Directors for supporting this worthy program. We hold our monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale at 7:30 p.m. The next scheduled meeting is on March 13, weather permitting. We encourage and welcome all branch members to attend. For your life insurance and annuity needs, call Noreen Fritz at 412-821- 1837. If you have branch news to share, call me at 724-339-2445. A happy, healthy and safe new year to all! Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauemnan Branch 590 held its Christmas party and election of officers n Dec. 4 at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Fort Myers, Fla. Our meeting was held prior to the show. By unanimous vote, the following members were elected: Mike Tomcsak, president; Rose Darab, vice president; Joan Mauerman, secretary/treasurer; and Irene Slauterbeck and Jodi Dues, auditors. Anthony Di Guilio served as temporary election chairman and installed the officers. Door prize winners were Kalman Nagy, Bob Menner, Eleanor DiGuilio and Margaret Menner. Winners of the half-and-half drawing were Ann Bartha and Eugene Toth. It was announced that, due to circumstances beyond our control, our meeting place has to be changed. Our meetings will now be held at the Harbor View Community Center in Charlotte Harbor, Fla. Our first meeting will be held Jan. 9. Hope to see you there. Christmas carols were sung and Kalman Nagy sang a solo in Hungarian. The meeting was adjourned, and we went into the theater for a delicious meal and a fabulous show. Four of our members were on stage for a "12 Days of Christmas" skit. Our stars were Helen Rosner, Kalman Nagy, Helen Toth and Corrine Metzger. They did such a wonderful job that they were signing autographs afterwards. Get well wishes go to Frank Schauer of Youngstown, Ohio, who is recuperating after surgery. Mike and I lost a very good friend, Ernie Mozer, who passed away last month. We attended his funeral in Passaic, N.J. Our condolences go out to his lovely wife Mary and his chidren and grandchildren. You could tell he was loved and respected by the many floral tributes and the packed church. Our prayers are with you, Ernie, and with your family. Special thanks to Rose Darab for her Operation Christmas Child contributions and for a bag full of new stuffed animals. A lot of children were very grateful for her generosity. Rose was the winner of the bean toss at our branch picnic. I left her name out in a previous branch report. Rose's daughter Christine and her husband Victor Kazio of Cateret, N.J., were at our picnic and said they really enjoyed themselves. They are both WPA members. Rose is very active in the kidney foundation in Cape Coral. We would like to thank the Home Office for the goodie bags and contributions to both our picnic and Christmas party. Congratulations to Jennifer Dues on her engagement to Brian Allen. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I spent the holiday in Crawford, Texas, with my son Danny, his wife Juda and daughters Joanie and Jamie. It seemed like I just got there and it was time to leave. For my "Hall of Fame" I nominate Rocky, my son Danny's German shepherd. One night, it was dark when Danny came home from work. Rocky ran up to him, barking like mad. Rocky then ran ahead of Danny Williu Pena Life, January 2004 19
