Spotlight Br. 34 Pittsburgh, PA ERIE, PA — Congratulations to Caroline Colleran who was one of more than 200 first-year medical students to participate in the Seventh Annual White Coat Ceremony conducted by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) held on Jan. 11. Caroline is the granddaughter of Branch 34 members Walter and Margaret Bugielski. Caroline was a WPA scholarship recipient during her undergraduate years at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. After earning her degree at Duquesne, she was entered LECOM as part of the class of 2006. The White Coat Ceremony initiates aspiring physicians into a commitment to the highest principles of morality related to the practice of medicine. LECOM holds the ceremony each January at the start of the second term for first-year students. The second term introduces the students to clinical medicine, and the students begin work with Erie area physicians at their medical practices. We send Caroline our best wishes for continued success. Caroline with proud grandma Marge Bugielski. Convention Update The General Convention-the WPA’s governing body-will convene Sept I -3, 2003, in Pittsburgh. In preparation for this important event, members across the country will be gathering in May to elect delegates who will represent them at the convention. This month’s William Penn Life contains information concerning these elections that we believe all members should read. First, turn to Page 9 and read the Notice of Qualifications for Delegates to the 35th General Convention. This notice contains excerpts from the WPA By-Laws, outlining who is eligible to serve as a delegate. If you wish to serve as a Delegate, or if you wish to have your say by voting in your district’s delegate election, turn to Pages 10 and 11 of this issue to learn when and where your district’s election meeting will be held. 2 Williai Pen Life, April 2003
