The Minutes MINUTES OF THE 35TM GENERAL CONVENTION OF THE WILLIAM PENN ASSOCIATION HELD AT THE HILTON PITTSBURGH & TOWERS IN PITTSBURGH, PA MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1,2003 1. Call to Order. Chairman of the Convention Anthony C. Beke welcomed the delegates to the 35th General Convention and called the Convention to order at 10:00 a.m. Chairman Beke introduced the members seated at the head table. He bid "Isten Hozott" to the delegates and guests. The Chairman congratulated the delegates upon their election to participate in this Convention and wished everyone a fruitful Convention. This Convention is called into session in accordance with the Fraternal Insurance Laws of the various jurisdictions wherein the Association is licensed to operate as a Fraternal Benefit Society. The supreme governing and legislation body of a Fraternal Association is the General Convention. The state law mandates that a convention of delegates representing the entire membership convene once every four (4) years to establish rules, laws, regulations and guidelines for the ensuing four (4) years. All members of the Convention are expected to be courteous in their speech and conduct. Each speaker will be expected to present his or her views clearly and calmly. Only that delegate, who has been recognized by the presiding chairman, may speak. Only those matters may be discussed at the Convention which has been included in the Agenda and in accordance with the by-laws. 2. Reverend Dr. Daniel Borsay/Invocation. Reverend Dr. Daniel Borsay of the Free Hungarian Reformed Church, McKeesport, Pa., offered the invocation. 3. Vice-Chairman Elmer W. Toth/Pledge of Allegiance. The assembly pledged allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America led by Vice Chairman of the Board Elmer W. Toth. 4. Evelyn Bodnar/American and Hungarian National Anthems. The assembly sang the American and Hungarian National Anthems led by Evelyn Bodnar and accompanied on the piano by Arlene Miller. 5. National President George S. Charles, Jr./Greetings. National President George S. Charles, Jr. extended warm greetings and remarks to the Convention. 6. National V.P./Secretary Richard W. Toth/Greetings. National V.P./Secretary Richard W. Toth extended greetings to the General Convention. He also read letters of best wishes for a successful Convention from The First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, National Slovak Society, Serb National Federation, Slovene National Benefit Society, United Lutheran Society, Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress, National Fraternal Congress of America, Insurance Department Commonwealth of 8 Pennsylvania, András Simonyi, Ambassador of Hungary, Tom Murphy, Mayor City of Pittsburgh, Pa., Governor Edward Rendeli, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and from the White House, President George W. Bush. 7. National V.P./Treasurer Diane M. Torma/Greetings. National V.P./Treasurer Diane M. Torma extended sincere greetings to the General Convention. 8. Rev. Stefan Torok, President of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America/Greetings. Rev. Ms. Trish Del Busse, Vice President of the Polish Falcons of America/Greetings. Ms. Trish Del Busse, Vice President of the Polish Falcons of America extended greetings to the General Convention. 10. Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Executive Director of the Bethlen Home/ Greetings. Rev. Imre A. Bertalan, Executive Director of the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, PA extended warm greetings to the General Convention. 11. Chairman Anthony C. Beke/Greetings. Chairman Anthony C. Beke welcomed the visiting guests seated in the gallery and introduced each one in attendance. 12. National V.P./Secretary Richard W. Toth/ Extends Thank You to Credentials Committee. National V.P./Secretary Richard. W. Toth thanked the members of the Credentials Committee for their time, effort and thorough review of all credential files during our meeting. National V.P./Secretary Richard W. Toth read the following Report of the Credentials Committee. The Board of Directors in compliance with Article II, Section 204, Point 1 of the William Penn Association By- Laws, unanimously approved the following as members of the Credentials Committee: Richard W. Toth, Credentials Committee Chairman; Barbara A. House, Vice Chairman; Dennis A. Chobody; Louis B. Horvath; Anna Kertesz; Stephen A. Novak; Michael A. Tomcsak; Carol A. Truesdell; Caroline B. Varner; William S. Vasvary; and Sándor J. Yuhas. The Credentials Committee met on Sunday, August 31, 2003, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. in the Board Room at the Hilton Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pa. We, the appointed Credentials Committee, hereby certify that (37) Delegate Districts Chairmen's Reports of Election of Delegates were submitted to the National V.P./ Secretary and approved. In addition, we, the appointed Credentials Committee, reviewed and verified the Delegates Approval Letters, the Delegates/Ex Officio Delegates Certification Letters with signed index cards and the (4) official notices that were published in the William Penn Life.
