Branch News Branch 296 BACON ROAST Sunday, Sept. 7, 3:00 p.m. Hungarian Reformed Church, 130 Walters Lane, Springdale For more information call Diane Torma at 724-339-2445. Branch 226 McKeesport, PA by Goldie J. Szarka Jó Napot Kivárnánk. Good day to you. Good wishes are being sent to all those celebrating their birthdays and anniversaries in the month of August. We wish good health to all, especially to WPA member Margaret Király of Rockwood, Pa., who went through a serious second back operation a few months ago. Hope the prognosis from your doctor is good. We remind our readers that Hungarian Day at Kennywood Park will be held Aug. 6. Also, the McKeesport International Village will be held Aug. 12 to 15 at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport. Branch 226 members attended the Hungarian Room Committee meeting and banquet. It was a pleasant Sunday afternoon affair with good food and good company. Branch member Rose Gerzsenyi said she recently traveled to Rochester, Minn., to attend the high school graduation ceremony of her granddaughter Kelly Jo Gerzsenyi. Kelly Jo is a member of the National Honor Society, Chess Club and numerous other ogranizations. She also earned all-conference honors in golf. (She's an avid golfer like her father.) Kelly Jo plans to attend the University of Wisconsin, majoring in psychology. Both she and her father Kenny are Branch 226 members. Good luck, Kelly Jo, in all your endeavors. By the time you read this, the Rev. Daniel Borsay, his family and my husband will be home from Hungary. I'm sure they will have some interesting stories to tell us. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Sept. 13 picnic at Penn Scenic View. This is the third year for the picnic, and it just keeps getting better. For your life insurance needs, please call Alex Goydan at 412-751- 8259. Találkozunk Szeptemberben. See you in September. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL by Joan Mauerman On June 281 attended a dinner at the University of Pittsburgh for the Hungarian Room Committee. John L. Lovász did a wonderful job on relating the history of the Room. It was great to see Kathy Novak and her dad Steve, Patti and Ron Balia and Bill and Caroline Mayor. While in Pittsburgh, I attended a picnic held by Branch 34 and the Hungarian Social Club. They had a very nice turnout, and the music by Dorothy was great. Thanks to Catherine and Ted Diard and Sharon Terzi for having faith in the WPA. Happy birthday to Olga Wansa, Helen Rosner, Bev Russell and Jamie Mauerman (Sweet 16!). Happy anniversary to Pat and Emily Damon. Congratulations to Kim and Mike Damon on the birth of their third child, Karsen Ann. She joins her sister Mackenzie and brother Connor. She's beautiful and has a lot of hair. She is my ninth great-grandchild. I am truly blessed. Congratulations to Elizabeth Damon and Stephen Wright, who were married July 12 in Willoughby Hills, Ohio. Get well wishes to Eleanor Di Guillio and Tom House. We'll keep you in our prayers. For your life insurance and annuity needs, please call Mike Tomcsak at 863-858-8071. Branch 800 Altoona, PA by Vincent Frank Branch 800 had seven members this year who attained 50 years of membership in our Association. The honorees are David Hipp, Russell R. Irwin, James W. Meintel, Dennis L. Rahm, Roy J. Shelley, Alfred D. Villani Jr. and Michael R. Winkler. All received a congratulatory letter, 50- year membership emblem and certificate from National President George S. Charles Jr. and the Home Office. The branch is grateful that we have members like these who keep our fraternal society strong. Our branch members are looking forward to seeing each other at the branch's annual summer picnic on Aug. 6 at 6:00 p.m. at beautiful Highland Park in Altoona. Congratulations to all members celebrating a birthday or wedding anniversary. May you have many more in the years to come. Many of our branch members are ill and in need of your prayers. People in pain find it extremely difficult to meditate in prayer. They depend on healthier members to remember them in their prayers. Labor Day, the last summer holiday, is Sept. 1. Summer vacations will come to an end and the kids will be back in school. Enjoy this holiday. After a three month recess, our branch meetings will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the social hall of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Altoona. All members are encouraged to attend. For information about WPA life insurance and annuity plans, please call Bob Jones in Altoona at 814-942- 2661. Continued on Page 24 20 William Penn Life. August 2003
