In Memóriám STEPHEN J. NOVAK STUART, FL - Members of Branch 48 New York and throughout the Association were saddened by the recent death of Stephen J. Novak, 97. Mr. Novak died January 31, 2003, at Parkway Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Stuart, Fla. Mr. Novak began his long association with the WPA in 1929 as a member of the former Rákóczi Aid Association branch in Hudson, N.Y. He served his branch as treasurer, secretary, collector and agent. In 1935, he was elected as a delegate to the national convention. He continued to serve with distinction after the merger which created the WPA. A native of Hungary, he lived in Hudson for more than 70 years before moving to Florida three years ago. He was a retired employee of IBM in Kingston, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret. Survivors include a daughter, Jean Murphy of Port Washington, N.Y.; a son, Stephen of Jensen Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Mary Maurer of South River, N.J., Elizabeth Milyon of LaBelle, Fla., and Irene Zuzek of Dunedin, Fla.; a brother, John of Dunedin; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donors choosing. May he rest in peace.
