Branching Out with Endre Csornán Thank You Yc l Than k You WHAT MORE CAN WE SAY? Long overdue appreciation is extended to many branches and individuals of the William Penn Association. Let's start with National Director Bill Bero from Connecticut, who saw a need for a food warmer after our first picnic. He proceeded to purchase and deliver the huge warmer that holds 28 trays. What a tremendous help in keeping the picnic's food warm and ready for serving. Thanks, Bill. Then, there's Charlie Johns, our national director from Harrisburg, Pa. He saw the need for a large barbeque and grill. Charlie purchased and delivered this beautiful piece of equipment, which was custom-made for our needs. The efficiency of this grill makes it a pleasure to cook our many picnic items. Thanks, Charlie and Branch 336 Harrisburg, Pa. Elmer Toth, vice chairman of the Board, donated aprons, hats and gloves for the cooks and servers from his branch, Branch 89 Homestead, Pa. Barbara House, national director from Detroit, agreed that a large upright freezer was needed and proceeded to purchase and deliver this muchneeded appliance to Penn Scenic View on behalf of Branch 18 Lincoln Park, Mich. Thanks, Barbara and Branch 18. Michael Tomcsak, national director from Florida, decided to purchase two canopies to keep the langos makers comfortable in wet or hot weather. Thanks, Mike and Branch 590 Cape Coral, Fla. Caroline Lanzara, president of Branch 14 Cleveland, on behalf of her branch, was able to donate $3,000 to the Scholarship Foundation. Thanks, Caroline and Branch 14. Dianne Charles, wife of National President George S. Charles Jr., sponsored the Chinese Auction, along with National Director Barbara House. Together, they collected 52 baskets for the auction from the Official Family, employees, members and branches. More than $2,800 was raised from this fun event. Thanks to Dianne, Barbara and their respective branches, Branch 352 Coraopolis, Pa., and Branch 18. Another tremendous contribution which made our picnic more enjoyable was the donation from the branches and their members of pastries and palacsinta. Our thanks to Marguerite Beke, wife of Chairman of the Board Anthony C. Beke, and the directors' spouses, who coordinated these donations. The sale of these items raised nearly $1,000 for our Scholarship Foundation. How about our Kids' Corner? A tremendous amount of time and effort was put into this activity, from the hayrides to the games, crafts, balloons and gift bags. The children were our special guests. We were especially pleased to have two clowns (Joan Mauerman and Gerry Davenport) who kept the kids laughing. The balloons were a special treat, provided by Susan Robison. Thanks to the many helpers who kept the children busy all day—Lori Szabó, Nancy Toth, Kati Csornán, Arlene Csornán and Mary Ann Kelly- Lovasz. You are awesome. Last, but not least, we can not say enough about all the workers who cooked, served food, collected tickets, sold raffle tickets, directed traffic and kept the picnic rolling along for over five hours. These volunteers are our heroes. Without them we could not have done it. This, indeed, was fraternalism at its best. One more word about our members and their branches: We are especially thankful to the branches that came by the busloads from Cleveland, Youngstown, Detroit and Harrisburg. Our attendance from the first picnic to the second doubled to over 700. We hope we can continue this type of cooperation for future picnics and to build our fraternal life together.
