Eleanor Di Giulio and Irene Franko. The half-and-half winners were Sara Lesko and Bob Menner. Plans for the coming year were discussed. Suggestions were made for a train ride and boat excursion. Final details will be worked out at the March 7 meeting at Egret Hall. Welcome new members Helen and Eugene Toth, Bob Menner, Jack Richards and Caitlyn Damon. Thank you for choosing WPA. Mary and Joe Mekler Sr. recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. Congratulations-what a milestone. They are life-long members of the WPA. Happy birthday to Joe Mekler Jr., Mike Damon and Mackenzie Damon. On Feb. 9 we attended a fund raiser sponsored by the Hungarian American Club of Southwest Florida. The dinner dance was held at the Forest Glen Country Club in Naples, Fla. Proceeds were given to the Hungarian Heritage Center in New Brunswick, N.J. About 200 people attended. Frank Dobos (formerly of Cleveland) serves as Club president, and Joe Ference (formerly of Hermitage, Pa.) is vice president. They are doing a fabulous job. Frank and his family are all WPA members. We spoke with Gus Molnár and his sister, Helen Knight, who lives in Naples. Helen is a retired teacher from the Cleveland area. She is a very sweet and friendly lady. Mary and Bob Macker were there with Mary's sister and two of Bob's cousins. Mary and Bob live in Bonita Springs, Fla., where Bob is a realtor at Blue Bell Realty. It was great seeing both of them again. Mary is still as pretty as ever. We also met the Rev. Stephen Nagy and his wife. He is pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Naples. Construction on the church was completed in December. The church will hold an Easter religious service on Sunday, April 7, at noon, followed by a luncheon. For reservations call Frank Dobos at (941) 348-7822. On Feb. 10, we visited the Plant City Hungarian Club with a group of WPA members to enjoy a meal and entertainment by musicians from Budapest. The dinner started at noon and the entertainment was still going strong at 7:30 p.m. A fine time was had by all. Olga and A1 Wansa were visiting from Michigan. On Feb. 17, we attended a casserole dinner at the Lake Mirror Auditorium. It was a reunion of Trumbull County, Ohio, people who are either snowbirds or permanent residents of Florida. Although I'm originally from Mahoning County, I was still invited. I saw people I haven't seen in 50 years. Twenty of those in attendence were WPA members. On Feb. 24, a group of WPA members attended a Tom Jones tribute in "High Vista" at Ridgewood Lakes, Davenport, Fla. As you can see, we senior citizens lead a very boring life. (Ha, ha!)
