Congratulations to Branch 14 college students Monica Lewis and Erin Ward for making the dean's list the first quarter of their freshman year. Monica is attending the University of Akron, and Erin is at Northwestern University. It's a pleasure hearing about the accomplishments of our young members, and we ask you to contact the Ward Agency at (440) 838-1200 regarding significant achievements of Branch 14 students. Branch 16 Perth Amboy, NJ by Michaelene Mirkovich On Dec. 15 our branch held its annual family Christmas party at St. Nicholas Byzantine Church in Perth Amboy. Branch President George F. Mirkovich welcomed everyone and extended greetings from the branch officers and the Association. After a dinner of fried chicken and salads, our program began with Johnny the Clown, who kept both the young and old guessing as to how he did his many magic tricks. His animal balloons were a special delight for the children, who each received one to take home. As always, however, the highlight of the day was the entrance of Santa Claus. Prior to his arrival, Steve Mészáros, with the help of Kimberly Hrabar (who was home on break from college), led all in singing traditional Christmas carols. At the sound of Santa's bells, everyone began to sing "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." The children were thrilled and quickly got into a line to tell Santa their secret wishes for presents under the tree. The children each received a gift from Santa and a bag of goodies. Our thanks to all who helped with the preparations, including Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hrabar, Steve Mészáros, Gladys VanLiew, Mr. and Mrs. George F. Mirkovich, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hrabar, Mr. and Mrs. Michael David and Melissa Mirkovich. Before the party, we held our annual elections. Elected were President Mirkovich; Frank Hrabar, vice president; Mr. Mészáros, secretary-treasurer; and Annette David and Melissa Mirkovich, auditors. Michaelene Mirkovich was appointed branch reporter. The officers and members of Branch 16 want to wish everyone a very happy new year with good health and prosperity for all. Among Branch 14 members who enjoyed a recent evening at the Carousel Dinner Theatre were (l-r) Branch Secretary Richard Sarosi, Branch Treasurer Violet Sarosi, Branch President Caroline Lanzara, Kathy Lanzara and Ernie Sarosi. Branch 18 Lincoln Park, Ml by Carol Truesdell The holidays are behind us and a lot of our members are enjoying the sun in Florida. I do believe they are called "snowbirds," and Barbara and Tom House are right there, too. Hope you're enjoying yourselves. Happy birthday wishes go out to Emilia Blair, Mike Kara, Ernie Mayoros, Julius Mayors, Dave Mayors and Diane Torma. May you have many more. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all who have been ill, especially to little Alex Marchelletta, Lou Derige and Cassie Holmes from our Home Office. May you all be well. Please pray for our deceased members Albert W. Tury and Rose Scopel. May they rest in peace. 16 William Penn Life, February 2002
