Wrapping up 0CC100I Members, friends help WPA, OCC set yet another record PITTSBURGH — Each year caring people fill shoe boxes, and Samaritan's Purse delivers them to needy children around the world. For 2001, the worldwide Operation Christmas Child campaign surpassed it's goal of five million gift-filled shoe boxes. Out of that total, 40,259 boxes were distributed to children in Hungary. The WPA's goal for 2001 was to collect 500 filled shoe boxes. To our astonishment you donated an overwhelming 709. Along with the shoe boxes, we collected $3,808 to purchase items for additional shoe boxes and to cover the requested $5 per box donation. What a great response from such wonderful people! Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to this project, making it—once again—a huge success. With so many boxes, the Home Office had to rent a U-Haul truck to deliver them to the OCC collection center. All of the filled shoe boxes were delivered on Nov. 15, 2001, to the OCC collection center located at the Northway Christian Community Center in Wexford, Pa. Special thanks go to Dianne A. Charles, our OCC coordinator, for her commitment and tireless efforts in making this project a success. We also thank all those who contributed to this effort. (See box on right. We apologize is we missed naming any individual or group.) Volunteers at the Operation Christmas Child collection center at the Northway Christian Community Center in Wexford, Pa., prepare for shipping some of the WPA’s 709 gift-filled shoe boxes.
