Our members often exhibit this same sense of charity and working for a larger goal. Recently WPA member Charlene Fodor Kinder participated in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk for A Cure to raise funds for medical research and provide medical care for less fortunate individuals. Charlene's purpose was not only to raise money for this cause, but to also educate others about breast cancer and its impact. In addition to asking for funds, Charlene also asked *Victonia s4. 'DevlUt Br. 89 Homestead, PA Victoria Alyssa Devlin, 18 months old, of Branch 89 Homestead, Pa., recently won in the special category at the New Star Discovery, Inc., Most Beautiful Baby Contest held at the Century III Mall in West Mifflin, Pa. In addition to winning a trophy, Victoria gained entry into the state finals to be held in Harrisburg in for names of loved ones to carry with her over the finish line as a symbol of honor and remembrance. "I am so thankful to the William Penn Association and all my family and friends for their donations," she said. "I was able to raise $5,240 for April. This was the first time she had entered such a contest. Victoria is a busy little girl. She loves books, especially her Disney First Reader books. She also is fond of her electric piano and her cell phone. She is a member of the First Hungarian Church of Homestead. We are very proud of Victoria, but no prouder than her grandmother, Nadine C. Devlin, and great-grandmother, Martha Kenko, who are also members of Branch 89. this cause. But more importantly I received 30 names to carry with me. I painted the names on my shirt so I would be able to remember and honor those individuals." Charlene carried four names that had personal meaning: Mitzie Lewis Fodor (cousin); Edna Laslo (aunt); Chuck Fodor (brother); and Louis Fodor (father). The harsh statistics are: During the walk's one-hour Opening Ceremony, 45 women and men were diagnosed with breast cancer. And, over the three days of the walk, 250 people lost their battle with this disease. But the walk did make a difference. The Atlanta Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day raised $2 million and all the walks to date have raised over $20 million for breast cancer research and to help individuals get access to medical care and information.
