William Penn Life, 2002 (37. évfolyam, 1-11. szám)

2002-08-01 / 8. szám

For Starters (A letter from the editor) DEAR READERS: You may have been wondering lately why you had not received your August issue of the William Penn Life. No, it wasn't lost in the mail. No, you weren't accidentally removed from our mailing list. And, no, the dog didn't eat it. What happened is that we have made some changes to our publication, as you may have already noticed. We uprgraded the type of paper on which our magazine is printed. We updated some of the graphic elements used throughout the magazine. We also hired a new company to print our magazine, Indiana Printing & Publishing Company of Indiana, Pa. All these changes necessitated a delay in the publishing of our current issue, a special August/ September issue. We will continue to publish our magazine on a monthly basis beginning with our October issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused. But, in the long run, it will allow us to get our magazine to you in a more timely manner. Our production schedule now calls for all articles to be submitted by the 10th day of the month prior to publication. Thus, articles for the October issue are due Sept. 10. This will ensure you will get your copy by (or very soon after) the first day of the month. Over the next few issues, we will continue to "tweak" our magazine, making further improvements we hope you will like. As always, we welcome your comments, criticisms and suggestions. After all, it is YOUR magazine. Let us know how we can make it more useful for you. We thank you for your patience, and we appreciate your continued support and readership. Fraternally, John E. Chesapeake area fraternalists sponsor successful Join Hands Day event by E. E. (AI) Vargo The Chesapeake Fraternal Congress comprises fraternal societies licensed in the District of Columbia, Delaware and Maryland. It is a small group compared to other state fraternal congresses, but it sponsored a very successful Join Hands Day event June 15. Members both young and old gathered on the grounds of Brookland Elementary School to clean up the area, plant flowers and paint a mural on the wall. Fraternalists also packed 1,000 lunches for the S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat) program. The food was distributed to the poor and destitute, particularly the elderly and homeless. Chesapeake area fraternalists also collected and delivered donations of books, toys, stuffed animals and clothing for Clean and Pure Kids, a program which matches mentors with foster care children. We thank all the member societies of the Chesapeake Fraternal Congress for their generous donations of labor, money and moral support, all of which contributed to a most successful Join Hands Day in our area. We invite all members in our area to participate in our next Join Hands Day event on Saturday, June 21,2003. 2 William Penn lift, August/September 2002
