Our thanks go to all those who made this year's tournament another great fraternal success. We offer special thanks to Tournament Administrator Robert A. Ivancso, Tournament Secretary Stephen J. Tomcsak, the officers and members of Branch 44 Akron, all those who donated prizes or baked goods, and the staff and management of the Radisson Hotel Akron City Centre and Stonehedge Lanes. Most of all, we thank our bowlers and guests for joining us at the tournament. We hope to see all of you next year in Pittsburgh. HVI'Ll A bit of luck earns bowlers extra cash You didn’t have to be a winner at this year’s bowling tournament to win a big prize. All it took was a little bit of luck-as in being selected for our “Lucky Strike” contest held during Saturday’s team event. Four bowlers took home some extra cash because they were able to roll a strike after their names were randomly selected. In the photo above, Tournament Coadministrators Charles Johns (far left) and Michael Tomcsak (far right) congratulate bowlers Betsy Griffith of Branch 98 Bethlehem, Pa., and Richard Ford of Branch 88 Rural Valley, Pa., who each won $200. Winning $100 each were Emilia Blair of Branch 18 Lincoln Park, Mich., (above left) and James Lewis of Branch 129 Columbus, Ohio (above right). a AMIDST ALL THE FUN OF THE bowling tournament, it’s easy to forget that the tournament weekend also serves a more benevolent purpose: raising money for the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation. Thanks to the generosity of our members, branches and friends, a total of $ 15,777 was raised for the benefit of the Foundation. That made it one of our most successful fund-raising weekends ever. The bulk of the funds ($10,710) was raised during the annual meeting of the William Penn Fraternal Association Scholarship Foundation held May 24 at the Radisson Hotel Akron City Centre. The benefit raffle drawn during Saturday’s bowling awards dinner raised $1,806. Another $1,375 was collected through the lane sponsorship program (see list on previous page). One of the weekend’s more popular events, the Chinese auction, was held during Friday’s bowlers reception. The auction featured dozens of prizes, offering something to suit every age and taste. The auction raised another $ 1,886 for the scholarship foundation. Our thanks to one and all for their generosity and support. In other Foundation business, 11 members were elected during the annual meeting to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Directors. They were: Steven Beke, Steve Charles, Tom House, Stephen J. Ivancso Jr., Mary Kaszonyi, Michele LaFlame, Margaret Leonardo, Joan Mauerman, Catharine Ryan, Mark Schmidt and Carol Truesdell. Nilliam Penn Lile. June 2002 7
