OCC2002 continues PITTSBURGH --Just like the temperatures outside, the WPA’s Operation Christmas Child 2002 is beginning to heat up. We’ve been busy collecting gift-filled shoe boxes and donations from members across the country, and we’re well on our way to meeting our goal. You can help us reach our goal-and, more importantly, bring hope to children living in crisis situations around the worldby joining us in the worthwhile effort. Honoring our Flag DURING THE PAST NINE months, our nation has witnessed an upsurge of patriotism amongst its citizenry. Our Flag now flies proudly everyday in more places than perhaps at any time in the last 50 years. On June 14, our nation will mark the 53rd annual observance of National Flag Day. We encourage all our members and friends to take time on this special day to reflect on all our Flag represents: freedom, independence, liberty, unity...and the great cost of securing and maintaining these. Our Flag reminds us that we, as Americans, are blessed with great privileges and responsibilities. Take time to honor our on Flag Day and every day. PITTSBURGH - Hot on the heels of another fun and successful bowling tournament, the WPA is making final preparations for its next annual fraternal gathering—our 19th Annual Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held on Saturday, July 13, at the Chestnut Ridge Golf Course in Blairsville, Pa. If you want to play in this year's tournament and have not submitted your entry, turn to Page 13 of this issue to find the official entry form. All entries must be submitted to the Home Office by June 21. Hotel accommodations for the weekend will be at the Indiana Holiday Inn in nearby Indiana, Pa. The weekend's official activities will begin with a reception on Friday, July 12, at the hotel. They will conclude Saturday evening with the annual golf awards dinner. The dinner will include the fun and exciting auction raffle for a set of Taylor made golf clubs and bag. The 18-hole tournament will again ROCKWOOD, PA — Time is running out to enroll in the WPA's 13th annual Hungarian Language Camp. If you've always wanted to learn a little Hungarian, or if you've thought about brushing up your Hungarian language skills, then our week-long camp may be just what you need. The camp will be held Aug. 4 to 10 at Penn Scenic View in Rockwood, Pa. Students will receive 25 hours of instruction over five days from experienced, friendly instructors. Instruction will be offered at two levels: a beginners class for those with little or no knowledge of Hungarian; and an intermediate class for students wishing to enhance their current feature the Hole-In-One contest. All eligible adult life-benefit members of the WPA who score a hole-in-one on the specially designated par-3 hole during tournament play will win $15,000. Plus, if any eligible member scores an ace on any of the course's other par-3 holes, that lucky member will win $5,000. To be eligible for these hole-in-one prizes, you must be an adult life-benefit member of the WPA by July 1,2002, with at least one year's premium paid. Prizes will be awarded to the men and women with the lowest gross and lowest net scores on the day, and to the winners of various skill shot contests along the course. Members and non-members will be eligible for these prizes. Golfers wishing to play a practice round can try one of two courses at Chestnut Ridge on Friday, July 12 between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Call Chestnut Ridge at 724-459-7180 before July 6 to reserve your tee time.
