Approximately 80 adults and four children attended the Christmas party, where a delicious buffet dinner was served. The party, under the leadership of Hungarian Club President Zoltán Harta and his wife Gyöngyi, was judged a tremendous success. (Two-year-old Danny Tokár fell in love with Mrs. Harta.) Of particular interest was the visit from Santa, who came with a sack full of gifts for the children in attendance and for those who could not attend. Entertainment included a group singing mostly Hungarian Christmas carols. The invitation to the party no' ?d that it was being co-sponsored by the WPA. Signs wishing guests a merry Christmas and a happy new year from the WPA and Branch President Tokár were placed on each table. We wish all the best for the year 2000 to all our members, with special thanks going to those who have recently joined. cBranch 129 Columbus, OH by Árpád Sibrik On Dec. 11 the branch held its family Christmas party at the VFW Post 495 on South Princeton Avenue, Columbus. About 250 members and guests enjoyed a meal of cabbage rolls, kolbász, fried chicken, escalloped potatoes, sauerkraut, pastries and refreshments. After the meal, Santa came and handed out candy, coloring books, crayons and $5 bills to members age 15 and under. As always, the WPA calendars given to all guests were a big hit. We thank the Home Office for its monetary and material contributions which made the party a success. A great big thank you to the members of the cultural club of the Members of the Tokár family-(l-r) Jack, Mike, Danny, Becky and Julie-enjoy the Branch 76 Christmas party. CBranch 296 Springdale, PAJ) by Diane M. Torma At its December meeting, Branch 296 elected the following members to serve our branch for the year 2000: Ralph Schuller, president; John Rusak, vice president; Diane M. 1 8 Torma, secretary-treasurer; and Margaret Kosheba, Martha Schuller and Jennie Wislie, auditors. The branch Christmas party was held Dec. 11 at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale. The pleasant weather resulted in a sizeable turnout, including 35 juvenile members. Children and adults alike were entertained by the magic, comedy and sleight of hand of Michael "Doc" Dougherty. Many young members were called upon to participate in the show and did an excellent job. We may have some future performers in our midst. Santa Claus then made his muchanticipated visit. The children took the opportunity to sit on Santa's lap to tell him of their wish lists. Mr. Schuller and Mrs. Torma distributed goodie bags. Afterwards, Noreen Fritz drew door prizes for the children. Everyone was a winner. A delicious buffet and lots of Christmas cookies topped off the afternoon. Many thanks to the Home Office and Board of Directors for the financial assistance and promotional items-they were a big hit, as usual. Also, many thanks to those who gave of their time and effort to make this year's party a success. Sadly, there was one void at our Christmas party. Anna Marie Pochan, who plays a big part in coordinating the party, was unable to attend because she had been battling cancer. Anna Marie passed away on Christmas Day. She had served as secretary-treasurer of the branch with dedication and loyalty for many years and represented our branch as a delegate at the 34th General Convention last September. She was instrumental in organizing the activities of our branch. She will be deeply missed. Our sympathy is extended to her husband Paul and her sister Margaret Kosheba. May she rest in peace. Branch 296 holds its monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale. The next scheduled meeting is March 9. We encourage and welcome all branch members to attend. Willi» Pen Lile, February 2000
