/T Branch 18 Uncoln Park, Ml By Barbara A. .House Happy fall tö all. We really did not have a real summer here in Michigan. We had just a couple days in the 90s and a zillion dáys of rain. Our inaugural branch picnic went beautifully as 110 members showed up to enjoy fraternalism at its finest. Special thanks go to chairpersons Carol and Doug Truesdell, Bill Imry, Betty and Rey Holguin, Emma and Mike Poliska, Tom House, Ann and Steve Nagy, Art Antal, Rose Antal, Emilia Blair, Velma and Julius Szabó, Helen Molnár, Helen Breznai and András Breznai. Thanks also to our wonderful gypsy musicians. You all made.it a wonderful day. I can't vyail tp dp it all again. Volunteers: God bless them! Welcome new members Corey Collins, Davida Lowe, Holly Ladanyi and Amy Polakowski. Thank you for the confidence you have in the WPA. We hppe to see you at our many functions. Speaking of functions, our quarterly visit to the V. A. hospital will be Sept. 6, We leave at 9:00 a.m. and return by 12:30 p.m. Our membership meeting will be held Sept. 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Hungarian Ajnerican Cultural Center in Taylor. We'll be going to Traverse City to see Kenny Rogers and try our luck at the casino on Oct. 20 to 22. Our October membership meeting will bp held on Wednesday, Oct. 18. We hpye never met on a Wednesday. Please make a note of this change in your schedules. On Oct. 29, we will host a banquet honoring our 50-year members at the Cultural (Center. Invitations are in the mail. If you or someone you know has been missed, please let me know. For all the rest of us tickets will be avail-Next deadline September 22,2000 able for $10 per person. A traditional Hungarian meal will be served, and there will be live Hungarian music. Our Christmasthemed card party will be held Nov. 26. Tickets are $4 per per-son and include dessert and a prize. For tickets, call chairwoman Betty Holguin at (313) 291- 2882, me or any branch officer. Finally, on Dec. 10, we'll celebrate our family Christmas party. Operation Christmas Child donations are arriving in my home daily. I even received a box from Judy and Mike Toth of Georgia (Emilia Blair's family). Thank you, everyone. Another event-filled summer has come and gone, but that doesn't mean the activities have subsided. The Youngstown American Hungarian Club has an outdoor festival planned for Sunday, Sept. 17. Volunteers from Branch 18 prepare some of the delicious food served at the branch’s recent picnic. The annual Hungarian Heritage Day will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at 2219 Donald Ave. Good food and music will highlight the day, and artifacts will be on display. Congratulations to all the winners at the golf tournament. It was nice to have Branch 28 members Sándor Tollas Jr. participate this year. Best wishes to everyone celebrating birthdays this month, especially Branch President Steve Novak. Branch 51 Passaic, NJ ) By Arthur Barillo I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer. Our branch meetings will resume in September. Plans are underway for our annual Christmas party to be held Dec. 3. Get well wishes go to all our members who are sick, especially Ernest J. Mozer Sr., a member of the National Auditing Committee and Branch 51 coordinator. Ernie recently underwent heart bypass surgery. We wish him a quick recovery. He asked us to make sure we thank everyone on his behalf for all the get-well cards and wishes he has received.
