We sold all our tickets for the raffle to be held at the annual golf tournament to benefit the scholarship foundation. The foundation is wonderful. My two granddaughters each received scholarships in the past. We planned the menu for our picnic on Aug. 6. We hope to see you there. Prior to the meeting we gathered at the Bonanza restaurant for dinner. All our officers plus Father Frank were there. It was a nice change of pace. Charlie, who will be a junior at McKeesport Area High School this fall, qualified for both the freestyle and Greco-Roman teams that represented Pennsylvania in the Cadet Division National Tournament in Fargo, N.D., July 22-28. He qualified for both teams with his performance in the state tournament last month. He finished second in the 182.5 pound division in Greco- Roman and third in the same weight class in freestyle. He is ranked third in the state in Greco-Roman at 182.5. "I feel I can do well at this tournament. I've spent a lot of time training," Charlie said. "I feel I have a good shot" at winning or placing in the tournament. Qualifying in both the Greco- Roman and freestyle events is a major feat. The styles have marked differences, the main stresses the upper body and forbids the use of the legs to score points/'There is a large difference in styles, but I've been able to adapt," he said. Just making the national meet gives Charlie and the other competitors taking part a chance to be noticed by plenty of college coaches. Wrestling in the summer also helps him keep in shape for football. He plays nose tackle and offensive tackle for his high school team. Charlie is the son of fellow Branch 226 member Charles Roka. His brother Michael and sister Sarah are also WPA members. We wish Charlie the best of luck. one being that Greco-Roman Charlie Roka decent Donatioi Invest in your future: Today’s young people are tomorrow’s doctors, entrepeneurs, inventors and leaders.
