Jamie Mauerman. Happy anniversary wishes to Kim and Colin Hughes. Congratulations to WPA Board Chairman Anthony C. Beke who was honored at the Carousel Ball. He shared the evening with his wife Marguerite, their sons Stephen, Eric and Brian, and daughters-in-law Lisa and Kim. I especially liked the tribute Chairman Beke paid his family when he accepted his award. It was a very lovely evening. A special hello to Betty Panin of Hermitage, Pa. Branch 590 members are making plans to attend the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater in Fort Myers on Nov. Ethel and William Becze of Branch 590 recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Branch 590 member Ashley Oberst (I) will attend Michigan State University this fall. Her proud grandmother is fellow member Irene Slaughterbeck. 25. More details will be announced in the near future. Branch 800 Altoona, PA By Vincent Frank Congratulations to Obadiah Nelson Ritchey, this year's recipient of the Branch 800 bond award. At his high school graduation ceremony, he received the Catholic Daughters of America's scholarship award in French studies and the Big John Riley scholarship award. Obadiah's name was submitted to our branch secretary via a letter from the Rev. Leo A. Lynch, principal of Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona. The award is presented to the senior male student who earns the highest grades in religion classes at the school. Father Lynch said he is very grateful to the branch for sponsoring the award each year. Obadiah is a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Newry where he completed his elementary education. At the church he served as an altar server, lector and eucharistic minister. He also was involved in the Cub Scout program at St. Patrick's. While attending Bishop Guilfoyle, Obadiah was an altar server, lector, eucharistic minister, choir member, student council representative, and member of the mission club. He performed 25 hours of community service each year at the school. In sports, he lettered in track and cross country. Bishop Guilfoyle's graduation ceremony took place May 23 at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, with the Most Rev. Joseph V. Adamec, bishop of the Altoona/Johnstown Diocese, as celebrant. Outside of school, Obadiah enjoys reading, hunting, mountain biking, rock climbing, working on computers and serving as a bike race marshall for the Toona Races in Altoona. This fall, he will begin studies at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, majoring in astronautical engineering and minoring in French or philosophy. His goal is to be an astronaut. May Obadiah (left) and all graduates from grade school, high school and college reach their goals. Our prayers go with you all. May God bless each one of you. Branch 8114 Clarion, PA By Noreen Fritz Our branch will hold its annual steak fry on Aug. 6 at 6:00 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Last year's steak fry was very successful and enjoyed by all members that attended. Members are invited to come this year and socialize with their neighbors while enjoying a tasty dinner.
