Branch 132 Vice President Alex J. Horvath helps in the branch's regular efforts to clean up part of local park. Patrick's County Park. A sign recognizing our efforts is posted in the park. Among members who regularly aid in the cleanup are Branch Vice President Alex J. Horvath and his wife Ann (who, incidentally, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year). Alex, 85 years young, is an Illustrious Member of the WPA. He urges all branches to participate in similar cleanup programs in their areas. In other news, our branch will host its annual picnic on Sunday, July 30, at Potawatomie Park, Pavilion #1. The branch will provide meat and nonalcoholic beverages. No admission will be charged, but each family attending is asked to bring a side dish to share. The picnic is open to every life benefit member, each of whom may bring a guest. For reservations and more information, call Alex or Ann Horvath at 232- 9451 or Frank Wukovits at 291-6603. Branch 296 Springdale, PA By Diane M. Torma Hope everyone had a great time at the bowling tournament in Cleveland. It was hard not to as Branch 14 officers and members did an outstanding job in hosting the tournament. Branch 296 member Martha Schuller won the first-ever 50/50 raffle held at Friday evening's reception. Way to go, Martha-couldn't happen to a nicer person. Looking forward to the golf tournament in Columbus in just a few short weeks. A warm welcome is extended to new WPA members Brieann Ecker and Danielle Ecker of Harwick, Pa. Hope to see you at some of the upcoming fraternal events. Get well wishes to Helen Gosciejew, Margaret Kosheba, Sue Molnár, Joe Wislie, Irene Charles and all members feeling under the weather. May each day bring you one step closer to good health. Congratulations to 10-year-old Erin Vargo (right) on recently winning the President's Excellence Award for Outstanding Scholastic Ability. In addition, she was the only student in her Sunday school class to have perfect attendance. Erin also received numerous prizes in an accelerated reading program for the gifted. Charles and Eleanor Vargo of West Leechburg are the proud grandparents of Erin.. .and rightly so-quite impressive achievements at such a young age. Keep up the good work, Erin! Belated (June 19) birthday wishes to Margaret Kosheba. Hope you had a good one. Happy anniversary to my husband John. Thank you for being so supportive.. .looking forward to many more. Please mark your calendars for Branch 296's annual bacon roast to be held Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale. More information will be forthcoming. For your life insurance and annuity needs, call Noreen Fritz at (412) 821-1837. If you have branch news to share, call me at (724) 339-2445. Our next branch meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Springdale. Hope everyone had a fun and safe Fourth of July. Branch 590 Cape Coral, FL By Joan Mauerman I'm proud to announce the birth of my great-grandson Austin Patrick Damon who was born May 22. His parents are Emily and Patrick Damon of West Chester, Ohio. He's a real little doll. 50th wedding anniversary congratulations to Vera and Art Szőke of Austintown, Ohio. Their children surprised them with a party—not an easy thing to do since they live in Florida and Alabama. Irene Nemeth helped with the guest list. We recently saw Vera and Art at the bowling tournament. Their grandson Jordan A. Wallace of Indian Harbor, Fla., recently became a member of Branch 590. Also, happy 60th anniversary greetings to Ethel and William Becze of Englewood, Fla. They celebrated their day with relatives and friends at the Hungarian Christian Society Petőfi Club in Venice, Fla., and a reception at the Evangelical Free Church of Englewood. Get well wishes to Mary and Mike Benedict of McKeesport, Pa. I met Mike's sister Julia and her husband Lou Mackranze of Trenton, N.J., and Clearwater, Fla., at the Carousel Ball. Their son Stephen was the master of ceremonies. While in New Jersey I had the privilege of attending Mass at St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Magyar Church in Passaic, N.J. What a beautiful place. It contained life-size statues of St. Stephen and two of his sons. The Rev. Stephen N. Mustos is the pastor. If you are ever in the area, stop in for a visit. Mary and Ernie Mozer and Art and Martha Barillo are members there. Happy birthday to Reni Gantt and Billiiini Penn Life, July 2000 25
