He came to the U.S. in 1956 during the Hungarian Revolt. Took part in all the Hungarian activities. President of the Hazelwood Hungarian Club. Member of the Masons. His life was short because of a tragic car accident. v J (Jood Sye, Joe Continued from Page 13 We would have "tea" nights, and he would often lead us in singing the old Hungarian halgatós. He knew all the words. He was always busy with some causes, mostly Hungarian, or at St. Joseph Church just down the street. For me, it was always a treat to stop at his house. He always gave me paprika bacon, and sometimes he made kocsonya, of which he would give me enough to take home to my wife, Ethel. He always liked her very much. His daughter Paula got married, and she and her husband had two boys: Brendon Joseph Bodley and Ryan Joseph Bodley. Their middle names were in honor of grandpa Joe. But, as with us all, the years mounted up, and Joe got sick. He ended up in a rest home. Several times my wife and I stopped to see Joe. He was so happy to see us. But, eventually, death overcame him last October, less than two months before his 90th birthday. The family asked me to say the eulogy, and I complied. But, I also broke down. I, along with Dan Laslo, was asked to play Joe's favorite songs, as he requested. After the church services, we followed the casket out to the cemetery, and after the priest was done, the funeral director asked the two violinists to please come forward. We tuned up for a minute, then we started. As we played those two songs, you could hear some Hungarians singing low. Perhaps even Joe was singing. isten veled Jóska, a viszont látásig!
