Crip it and rip it! You’re invited to our 16th Annual Golf Tournament this July THE 16TH ANNUAL WPA Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, July 10, at the Blackmoor Golf Club in Richmond, Ohio, near Steubenville. To enter the tournament and reserve seats at the golf awards dinner, complete the form on the next page and send it to Richard Toth at the Home Office. Make sure you include your check covering tournament fees and dinner reservations. Hotel accommodations will be at the Best Western Inn in Weirton, W.Va. Everyone must make their own room reservations directly with the hotel. Call (304) 723-5522. Please note that the hotel is changing ownership and may become a Holiday Inn by tournament time. Don't delay: Make your reservations for the hotel, golf and banquet as soon as possible. Deadline for all reservations is June 11. Fees and Costs The tournament entry fee is $37 for WPA adult life benefit members and $45 for non-members. This fee includes greens fees, cart and a sandwich and refreshments at the turn. Room rates for the hotel are $64 per night for single or double occupancy. Hotel rooms will be reserved on a first-come/first-served basis and are subject to availability. Tickets for the golf dinner are $22 for adults age 16 and older, $14 for teens ages 13 to 15 and $5 for children ages three to 12. The weekend's activities will begin Friday, July 9, at 7:00 p.m. with a reception at the Best Western/ Holiday Inn. During the reception, we will again host a pitching contest and a putting contest for the benefit of the Scholarship Foundation. All contestants who sink three consecutive putts in one turn will win $75. Other prizes will be awarded to those making one or two putts. Hole-In-One Contest The 18-hole tournament will again feature a Hole-In-One Contest. The first eligible member to score a holein-one at the designated par-3 hole will win a $15,000 cash prize. Plus, if an eligible member scores an ace on any of the course's other par-3 holes, that lucky member will win a $5,000 cash prize. If a hole-in-one is not scored on the $15,000 hole, a special $500 cash prize will be awarded to the eligible member who gets his or her tee shot closest to the pin on that hole. Now, here's the important part: To be eligible to win these hole-in-one prizes, you must be an adult life benefit member of the William Penn Association by July 1,1999, with at least one year's premium paid. Nonmembers are not eligible for these cash prizes. However, all golfers—both members and non-members alike—are eligible for prizes to be awarded to the low gross and low net winners of the tournament and to the winners of the skill shot contests. Dinner and Auction Raffle The weekend will close with the annual golf awards dinner at the hotel Saturday. A cash bar will open at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. After dinner, we will present awards to the tournament's top golfers and give away door prizes. All dinner guests will be eligible for door prizes. The grand finale-open only to WPA adult life benefit members attending the banquet—will be the fun and exciting auction raffle for a set of golf clubs and bag. Nonmembers will not be permitted to buy into the auction raffle. For those golfers arriving early and wishing to get in a practice round at the Blackmoor Golf Club, the WPA has blocked tee times at the course on Friday, July 9, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday's greens fees and cart rental will cost $25 per person. To schedule your Friday tee time, call Blackmoor at (740) 765- 5502. Participation in the tournament will be limited to 152 golfers in 38 foursomes. And please note that the course requires all golfers to wear soft spikes. It should be another fun fraternal weekend for all who attend. Please make your reservations as soon as possible to ensure you will be a part of it. We look forward to seeing you at the first tee July 10! 8 William Pen Lile, May 1999
