Three Cheers for our FIC’s May has been declared Fraternal Insurance Counsellor Month by the National Fraternal Congress of America. It is the fraternal benefit system’s way of honoring those who, in many respects, are the lifeblood of fraternal societies like our own. We at the WPA are proud to recognize our officers, employees and representatives who have earned this professional designation. We thank our FIC’s, listed below, for serving our members according to the highest of ethical standards and for remaining loyal to our society and to Fraternalism. It's called the Graduating High School Seniors Benefit, and is available exclusively to the children of WPA members. With this benefit the graduate receives free life insurance coverage for six months. The student does not have to be a WPA member. The amount of coverage per graduate will be $5,000 if one parent is a WPA member, or $10,000 if both parents are WPA members. To receive this free life insurance coverage, the parents must send to our Home Office a written notice that their child has graduated from high school. The notice must include the date of graduation. The free coverage begins the day we receive such notice and ends six months from the date of the student's graduation. The student must have received a diploma, but does not need to submit it with the notice. The coverage may be continued after the six-month period by submitting an application and paying the required premiums. For more information, contact your local WPA representative or call our Home Office at 1-800-848-7366. J New Jersey fraternals to honor youth The WPA and all fraternal societies are proud of the accomplishments of our young members. This fall, the New Jersey Fraternal Congress (NJFC) will recognize some of the best of our youth when it presents the Annual Youth Achievement Awards. The awards will be presented to those students who exhibit the best combination of academic excellence, civic responsibility and fraternal involvement. Winners will be selected from two categories: (1) high school juniors and seniors, and (2) college students. The winner in each category will receive a cash prize of $250 and a plaque. The recipients and their parents will be the guests of the NJFC at a luncheon Oct. 8 at the Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. The luncheon will be held in conjunction the the 66th Annual NJFC Convention. Applicants for the award must be residents of the state of New Jersey. Deadline for applications is Aug. 15. For an application, contact the WPA Home Office. Kubus elected to Auditing Committee The WPA Board of Directors recently elected Louis J. Kubus of Pittsburgh as a member of the Association's National Auditing Committee. Mr. Kubus will fill the unexpired term of retiring committee member Charles J. Furedy. Mr. Kubus, 82, is a longtime member of Branch 34 Pittsburgh, and currently serves as a branch auditor. He previously has served his branch as treasurer and as a delegate to the last four WPA General Conventions. The National Auditing Committee meets twice each year to review the financial records of the Association. It reports its findings to the national president, chairman of the Board, and General Convention. 2 William Penn Lile, May 1999
