by Dawn D. Ward Branch 14 held its first meeting of 1999 Feb. 10. Various branch­­sponsored activities for this year were discussed, but r.o plans were finalized. Branch 14 is proud to announce the addition of two juvenile members this year. They are Natalie H. Sevits, born Dec. 1,1998, and Steven M. Katona, born Dec. 30,1998. Natalie is a fourth-generation member of WPA, and Steven is a fifth-generation member. The next Branch 14 meeting will be held Wednesday, March 10 at the Grand Bay Clubhouse, 7001 West Cross Creek Trail, Brecksville, at 7:30 p.m. All Branch 14 members are welcome to attend and help plan the activities agenda for 1999. by Barbara A. We have had a pretty snowy winter here in Michigan. We really are looking forward to warmer weather. Warmer weather makes us think of the bowling tournament. Continued get well wishes to Lou Almassy and Irene Korpák. I hope at this reading you are all feeling 100 percent. Please remember in your prayers the families of our deceased mem­bers: Mary Daloisio, Lewis Dobos, Yolanda Koroknay, Frances Kozlowski and Adam Murawski. May they rest in peace. We have planned an overnight trip to the Soaring Eagle Hotel and Casino for April 21 and 22. The first 40 people to send me their $25 deposit will be guaranteed of a spot on the bus and a room in the elegant new hotel. Please call me at (313) 383-4472 for any information. I must have your money no later than March 21. Happy birthday to some very special people: Helen Molnár, Cassie Holmes, Andy McNelis and Chairman of the Board Mike Hrabar. May you all have many more. Please mark your calendars for these upcoming events: —The Hungarian American Cultural Center's Spring Dance and Dinner, April 17, with music by Hegedős; —Hungarian wooden platter dinner, May 15, with music by Joe Jeromos; and —Holy Cross Hungarian Catholic Church's wedding anniversary Mass and dinner, April 18. Please try to support these affairs. Without you, they will cease to exist. Our next Branch 18 membership meeting will be held March 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center. Please try to attend. National Director Anthony Beke (left) and his wife Marguerite join National Director Barbara House and her husband Tom at the White Rose Ball hosted by the Hungarian Arts Club of Detroit. The WPA and Branch 18 are longtime supporters of the Club, founded in 1958. In addition to the White Rose Ball, held annually to introduce girls of Hungarian descent to society, the Club also awards one scholarship each year to a student of Hungarian descent to study the fine arts. Club officers are President Violet Misangyi, Vice President Tom Markovits, Secretary Diane Kroll and Treasurer Ursula Markovits. All Branch 18 members are urged to support the worthy endeavors of the Hungarian Arts Club of Detroit, by Barbara A. House The Youngstown American Hungarian Federation will once again proudly host a commemora­tion of the 1848 War of Independence on Sunday, March 14, at 2:30 p.m. This event will be held at St. Stephen of Hungary Church, 854 Wilson Ave., Youngstown. The guest speak­ers will be the Rev. Gabor Tamas and the Rev. Ken Sausman of the American Hungarian Reformed Church. Reciting the traditional "Nemzeti Dal" will be Csongor Kisfaludy, a Hungarian exchange student attending Youngstown State University. There will also be songs and music.
