WOW! Members shatter goal for Operation Christmas Child PITTSBURGH - We've always known our members share the spirit of fraternalism. But, perhaps, we have underestimated how strong your spirit is. As of the end of September, our members had donated 330 gift-filled shoe boxes to our Operation Christmas child campaign, more than three times our goal. When we announced our campaign, we tagged it a "100/100 Did you hear about the WPA member who’s studying to be a priest, but already is a father? Or, about the member who led efforts that raised nearly $8,000 for flood victims halfway around the world? Or, how about the member who earned some gold-as in gold medals? Their stories can be found on Page 7 in a new department of our publication, “Spotlight.” Our “Spotlight” will shine on members who merit special recognition for their volunteer service, personal achievements or unusual pursuits. If you know of a member who deserves to be in the “Spotlight,” send his or her story and photograph to: Spotlight c/o William Penn Association 709 Brighton Road Pittsburgh, PA 15233 proposition," meaning 100 shoe boxes for 100 children. We thought it was a challenging yet attainable goal. Boy, were we wrong. And we couldn't be happier. Words fail to express our gratitude to all those who opened their hearts and decided to spread the joy of Christmas to children in crisis situations around the world. We extend special thanks to Ann Marie Barger of Branch 249 Dayton, Ohio, a teacher at Bishop Fenwick High School in Middletown, Ohio. She told her students about Operation Christmas Child, and they responded by donating 86 gift-filled shoe boxes. We also thank those who donated money to our campaign. In addition to the 330 shoe boxes, Operation Christmas Child will receive at least $1,295 from you and the WPA. Remember: if you have donated~or will donate-gift-filled shoe boxes in the name of the WPA to your local Operation Christmas Child distribution center, please let us know. That way we will be able to include your donation in the final accounting of our campaign. 42 Beanie Baby winners announced PITTSBURGH - The Home Office recently drew the names of 42 winners in the WPA Beanie Baby® Bonanza.
