You can help make WPA’s Operation Christmas Child campaign a success Options available to those researching family histories Regarding the letter from William J. Mitchell (WPL, July 1999) seeking help with his family history, there are several options at least. The Mormon Church's Family History Library is a tremendous help in genealogy. One can order microfilm through them for a very nominal fee. At their library you can study the film until you find your connections. Church records from all over the world are microfilmed for use by everyone. You do not have to belong to their temple to use it. It is part of their faith to know your roots. Look in the telephone directory for a Church of Latter Day Saints Family Library in your area. I have been using their resources for years. They welcome everyone. I have studied church records from Hungary that go back to the 1700's. Another option is to take a genealogy course through a local adult education program. This also is a great help. Edward A. PITTSBURGH -- Your response to the WPA's Operation Christmas Child "100/100" campaign has been fantastic. Our goal is to collect 100 gift-filled shoe boxes which will be delivered at Christmastime to 100 children in crisis areas around the world. We have not met our goal— yet. With your help, we know we'll reach it. You can help us reach our goal— and make this a merry Christmas for 100 children—by doing one of three things: “J Fill a shoe box or two—or as many as your heart and wallet can fill—with small toys, hard candy and gum, toiletries and school supplies. 2 Donate such items which we can package in shoe boxes. J Donate money which we can use to buy items. Make out your check to "William Perm Association." Please note on your check that it is for Operation Christmas Child. Preparing a gift-filled shoe box is easy. Just find an empty shoe box. Decide whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl. The quadrennial meeting of the WPA's governing body will be held Sept. 6 to 8 at the Pittsburgh Hilton and Towers, located in downtown Pittsburgh. The convention body will consist of 82 delegates elected by our membership during the delegate district meetings held in May. Ex officio delegates to the Convention will include the three National Officers, the 12 members of the Board of Directors, the six members (2-4 years old, 5-9 or 10-14). Mark it on the top of the box. Fill the box with gifts. Enclose a check for $5 or more-made payable to "Samaritan's Purse"~to help cover shipping and other costs. Then put a rubber band around your box and lid. All shoe boxes and other donations must be received at the WPA Home Office by Sept. 15. If you can't deliver your donation to us by that date, then you can deliver it anytime to the Operation Christmas Child collection center nearest you. There are 114 such centers located across the U.S. For the location of the collection center nearest you, call Operation Christmas Child at (828) 262-1980, or log on the internet at urww.samaritan.org. If you take a gift-filled shoe box to a collection center, please write or call the WPA Home Office letting us know how many shoe boxes you donated. This way, we can make an accurate accounting of the WPA's contribution to this effort. For more information about how to prepare your shoe box, see last month's issue of the William Penn Life, or call the Home Office toll-free weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (EST) at 1-800-848-7366. of the National Auditing Committee and the four members of the National Advisory Committee.
